6-Speed Manual Transmission Assembly for 2010-2013 Mazda 3
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a 6-speed manual transmission for a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicle. It fits only the 2010-2013 Mazda 3 models equipped with the 2.3L turbocharged engine (Mazdaspeed3). It will not fit vehicles with a different engine, an automatic transmission, or the All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Mazdaspeed6.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Verify the 8th digit of your VIN is 7 (designates the 2.3L Turbocharged engine).
- Confirm your vehicle is a Mazdaspeed 3 hatchback with a 6-speed manual transmission.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Engine support bar
- Transmission jack or subframe support
- Clutch alignment tool
- Axle popper tool or slide hammer
- Torque wrench
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Manual Gear Oil (SAE 75W-80 GL-4 is specified for 2011-2013 to prevent grinding; 75W-90 GL-4 was specified for 2010. Use only yellow-metal safe GL-4 fluid. Capacity: 2.5 Liters / 2.6 US Quarts)
- Clutch Kit (Clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout/release bearing, and pilot bearing)
- New Flywheel Bolts (Torque-to-yield, single-use only)
- Rear Main Seal
- Left and Right Transmission Output Shaft Axle Seals
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: none
This is a fully mechanical manual transmission with no electronic control module (TCM) to program or marry to the vehicle's immobilizer system.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Using the wrong gear oil: The gear oil spec varies by build: 75W-80 GL-4 vs 75W-90 GL-4 — confirm with us before install. Do not use standard GL-5 fluid as sulfur additives will destroy the brass synchronizers.
- Subframe alignment: The front subframe must be lowered for clearance. Ensure it is perfectly aligned to the chassis dowels upon reassembly to preserve steering geometry.
- CV axle seating: Ensure front CV axles click fully into the differential to prevent rapid gear oil leakage and catastrophic internal failure.
- Intermediate shaft bracket: The passenger-side axle intermediate shaft support bracket must be properly torqued and aligned to prevent axle vibration and seal failure.
- Flywheel bolt torque: Flywheel bolts are single-use and must be torqued in a star pattern to 118 ft-lbs.
- Shift cable linkage adjustment: Improperly adjusted cables cause vague engagement, difficulty shifting into 1st/Reverse, and accelerated synchro wear.
- Rear Motor Mount (RMM) upgrade: The factory mount is soft and allows excessive engine rocking, which bends shift cables. Upgrading to a stiffer aftermarket mount is highly recommended.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Ordering for a non-turbo 2.0L or 2.5L Mazda 3 (different bellhousing bolt pattern).
- Mixing Gen 1 (2007-2009) and Gen 2 (2010-2013) transmissions (different gear ratios cause cruise control failure in Gen 2 cars).
- Using the wrong gear oil (using GL-5 instead of GL-4, or using 75W-90 instead of 75W-80 on later models, which causes cold-shifting grinds).
- Reusing worn shift cables or single-use torque-to-yield flywheel bolts.
- Not replacing the clutch kit and axle seals during the transmission swap.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Causes gear grinding or resistance when shifting, especially when cold. Requires synchro replacement.
🔎 Recommended at install: Factory plastic pads wear down, causing the transmission to pop out of gear (commonly 2nd or 3rd under deceleration). Rebuilding forks with aftermarket brass pads is a common permanent fix.
🔎 Recommended at install: Whirring or rattling noise when idling in neutral with clutch released; disappears when clutch is depressed. Requires bearing replacement.
🔎 Recommended at install: Caused by faulty clutch hub assemblies and a potentially bad 3rd gear. Requires transmission disassembly to replace affected parts.
🔎 Recommended at install: If replacing the dual-mass flywheel or clutch assembly during the swap, the engine computer may require reprogramming to prevent engine surging or calibration faults (NHTSA ID: 10055747).
🔎 Recommended at install: Occasional lockout when stationary. Shift into another gear first or slightly release the clutch to engage.

Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
