1.3L Non-Turbo Engine Complete Assembly for 2020-2025 Buick & Chevrolet
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a complete engine assembly for vehicles equipped with the 1.3L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine only (GM option code L3T). It will NOT fit vehicles with the 1.2L engine. Please verify your vehicle has the 1.3L engine, which can be confirmed by checking for the letter 'L' as the 8th digit of your vehicle's VIN.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Engine Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:
- Check your VIN's 8th Digit: Confirm that the 8th digit of your VIN is L.
- Verify the Option Code: Confirm your Service Parts Identification label lists option code L3T.
- Check the Oil Fill Cap Location: On the 1.3L (L3T) engine, the oil fill cap is in the middle of the valve cover, whereas on the 1.2L it is in the lower corner.
- Confirm your Drivetrain (FWD vs. AWD): Be prepared to swap your original oil pan and mounting brackets if the donor vehicle's drivetrain does not match yours.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- EN-52484 Camshaft Locking Tool
- EN-52476 Flywheel Holding Tool
- EN-955-10-A Locking Pin Tool
- Torque Multiplier
- Fuel Injector Seal Installer & Sizer (6mm)
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Engine Oil: 4.5 Liters (4.8 Quarts) of 0W-20 synthetic oil meeting GM dexos1 Gen 3 (or Gen 2) specification
- Oil Filter: AC Delco PF66 or equivalent high-quality filter
- Coolant: GM-approved Dex-Cool (50/50 pre-diluted)
- Spark Plugs: Three (3) OEM-spec iridium spark plugs
- Intake manifold gasket
- Exhaust manifold gasket
- Coolant Control Valve seals
- High-pressure fuel injector Teflon seals
- Crankshaft balancer bolt (torque-to-yield stretch bolt)
- Cylinder head outer bolts (if inspected and retightened per TSB 22NA009)
- Rear main seal (highly recommended while engine is out)
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Variation Relearn, Engine Coolant Control Valve Mode Calibration, Immobilizer Relearn, Component Resets
A GM GDS2 diagnostic scan tool (or high-end professional equivalent) is required to perform the mandatory CKP variation relearn, CCV alignment, and anti-theft synchronization.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Do NOT Lift by the Oil Pan: The lower oil pan is made of plastic. Placing a jack, block, or hoist support under the oil pan will crack or deform it.
- Check the Cylinder Head Outer Bolts First: Check the tightness of the cylinder head outer bolts while the engine is out of the vehicle.
- Coolant Control Valve (CCV) Alignment: The rotary CCV must be carefully aligned and calibrated using a scan tool to prevent immediate overheating.
- FWD vs. AWD Oil Pan & Bracket Transfer: If swapping between FWD and AWD configurations, you must transfer the oil pan and mounting brackets.
- Teflon Fuel Injector Seals: Any transferred fuel injectors must receive brand-new Teflon seals installed and sized using a dedicated 6mm tool.
- Turbocharger Transfer: Carefully inspect your old turbo for shaft play, cracks, or signs of oil leaks before transferring it to the replacement engine.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Ordering for a 1.2L Vehicle: The 1.2L (LIH/LBP) and 1.3L (L3T) engines are completely different designs and are not compatible.
- Reusing Torque-to-Yield Bolts: Reusing the crankshaft balancer bolt can cause the bolt to back out, leading to severe engine damage.
- Lifting or Supporting by the Plastic Oil Pan: Placing a floor jack under the plastic oil pan to support the engine during installation.
- Skipping the Coolant Valve Relearn: Skipping the electronic calibration of the Coolant Control Valve leads to immediate check engine lights and overheating.
- Reusing Fuel Injector Seals: Attempting to transfer direct injectors without replacing the Teflon seals causes high-pressure fuel leaks.
- Reusing the Old Turbo Without Inspection: Installing a contaminated or failing turbocharger can send metal debris into the new engine.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Software update or replacement of the coolant flow control valve. Can cause DTCs P1098 and/or P26BB.
🔎 Recommended at install: Retighten the outer bolts to the correct factory specification to prevent head gasket failure or external leaks.
🔎 Recommended at install: Address binding of camshaft position actuator bolts which causes rough idling, misfires, or loss of VVT.
🔎 Recommended at install: Install a lower grille winter cover or replace the intercooler with an updated wide-fin design.
🔎 Recommended at install: Verify PCV system operation and perform oil consumption tests.
🔎 Recommended at install: Address fuel leak from the fuel rail to prevent gasoline smell in cabin or under hood.
🔎 Recommended at install: May require replacement of the entire turbocharger assembly.

Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
