What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Relearn, Camshaft Position Sensor Relearn, and Immobilizer/Security Relearn (if swapping ECM).

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Variation Relearn is mandatory using a GM-compliant bidirectional scan tool to prevent misfire codes. Immobilizer/security relearn is required only if the donor ECM is used.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

• Active Thermal Management (ATM) Bleeding: Must use a vacuum coolant refilling tool to prevent air pockets in the rotary Coolant Control Valve system. Traditional burping will cause immediate hot spots and engine damage.
• Engine Prelubing Procedure: Must pre-lube the engine before starting for the first time to protect lower crankshaft bearings.
• High-Pressure Fuel Line Replacement: The metal fuel line from the high-pressure pump to the rail is single-use. Reusing it causes extreme fire hazards at 2,000+ PSI.
• Fragile Sliding Cam System (SCS) Actuators: Actuators and connectors on the camshaft carrier are highly fragile; avoid striking them during installation.
• Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: Critical fasteners are single-use and must be replaced to ensure proper clamping force.

Easy to get right once you know them:

• Reusing the single-use high-pressure fuel pipe, leading to fuel leaks and engine fires.
• Improper coolant bleeding without a vacuum tool, causing rapid localized overheating and warped heads.
• Skipping the mandatory Crankshaft Position (CKP) variation relearn, resulting in rough running and flashing check engine lights.
• Ordering a longitudinal RWD version (from Cadillac CT4/CT5/CT6 or Chevrolet Camaro) for a transverse FWD/AWD vehicle.
• Ignoring existing oil leaks on donor parts (front cover/cam carrier) before dropping the engine in.
