The computer must learn the physical tolerances of the new crankshaft via a CKP relearn to prevent misfire codes (DTC P0300). Security/immobilizer re-marriage is also required for the ECM to recognize the vehicle keys.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

• The Back-of-Head Ground Wire: Critical main electrical ground wire must be securely bolted to the back of the cylinder heads.
• Single-Use High-Pressure Fuel Lines: Metal fuel lines from the high-pressure fuel pump to the fuel rails must be replaced once loosened.
• Torque-to-Yield Balancer Bolt Sequence: Must follow strict GM torque sequence (37 ft-lbs, then rotate an additional 140 degrees) with a new bolt.
• Oil Pan Swap (2WD vs. 4WD): Must swap original oil pan and pickup tube if donor vehicle drivetrain configuration differs.
• Fuel System Priming: High-pressure direct injection fuel system must be properly primed before starting to avoid damaging the HPFP.
