Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Locate the white barcode sticker on the driver's side of the transmission case and confirm the part number is NL1P-7000-HA.
  • Confirm if the vehicle has the Auto Start-Stop button on the dashboard.
  • Confirm the vehicle is a four-wheel drive (4x4) model.
  • Confirm the vehicle is equipped with either the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 or the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine (non-hybrid).
🔎 Where to look: White barcode sticker on the driver's (left) side of the transmission case containing the 12-digit Solenoid Body Identification and 13-digit Solenoid Body Strategy.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6.5 to 9 hoursshop labor$900 to $1,800typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • High-lift transmission jack with safety straps
  • Ford transmission cooler line quick-disconnect tool (Rotunda 307-569 or equivalent)
  • Torque wrenches (both inch-pound and foot-pound)
  • J2534 pass-thru programming tool (Ford VCM3, Autel VCMI, Topdon RLink) with Ford FDRS/FJDS software, or high-quality OBD Link adapter with FORScan
🔌 Wiring harness: External wiring harnesses are not included. Ensure your vehicle's harness matches the connector pins on the replacement unit's solenoids and sensors.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Ford Mercon ULV (Ultra-Low Viscosity) automatic transmission fluid (Motorcraft XT-12-QULV) - approx. 13 quarts for dry fill, 8-10 quarts for typical swap
  • Transmission filter (Motorcraft FT-215 or equivalent) and filter-to-pump seal
  • Front pump/torque converter input shaft seal
  • Professional heated back-flush of the transmission cooler and lines (or replacement of cooler and lines)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Solenoid Body Strategy and Identification programming (TCM characterization) & Adaptive Relearn

Every 10R80 transmission has a unique 13-digit Solenoid Body Strategy and a 12-digit Solenoid Body Identification printed on the driver's side case tag. You must use a diagnostic scan tool connected to Ford's servers (via FDRS, FJDS, or FORScan) to download and flash the specific strategy file matching this transmission into your truck's computer. After programming, clear the adaptive learning tables and perform the specific, lengthy drive cycle.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated onto the transmission input shaft and pump gears (must click and drop into place three distinct times) before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the internal fluid pump.
  • Solenoid Strategy Programming: Do not drive the vehicle until the 13-digit Solenoid Strategy and 12-digit ID from the case tag have been successfully programmed into your PCM/TCM.
  • Fluid Level Check Procedure: The 10R80 does not have a dipstick under the hood. Check fluid level via the small dipstick inside the metal fill plug on the passenger side of the case with the engine running, vehicle level, in Park, and fluid temperature strictly between 206°F and 215°F (96°C to 101°C).
  • Dowel Pin Alignment: Ensure engine block alignment dowel pins are clean, in place, and not double-stacked.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering the Wrong Start-Stop Configuration: Buying a non-start-stop transmission (ID ending in 'DA') for a truck that has the Auto Start-Stop feature, or vice versa.
  • Skipping the Cooler Line Flush: Reusing the old transmission cooler and lines without a heated back-flush, which washes old contaminants into the new unit's sensitive solenoids.
  • Reusing the Old Solenoid Strategy: Assuming that resetting adaptive learning tables is enough without flashing the new unit's specific solenoid strategy.
  • Using the Wrong Fluid: Filling the transmission with Mercon LV instead of the required, thinner Mercon ULV.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-11484-5455602). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
