✓ runs nice
This is a used part. For vehicles with the 3.7L 24-valve engine and an automatic transmission. The supplier notes this engine runs well. Includes the engine assembly up to the flywheel.

This engine fits only 2017 Lincoln Continental models with the 3.7L (VIN K) engine that were manufactured on or before August 23, 2016. It will not fit vehicles built after this date. Please verify your vehicle's production date before ordering. This engine model is known to have an internal, timing-chain-driven water pump which can be a potential failure point.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of the VIN is 'K'.
  • Verify the vehicle build date on the door jamb sticker is on or before August 23, 2016 (07/16 or earlier is compatible; 08/16 requires day-of-manufacture confirmation; 09/16 or later is incompatible).
  • Confirm if the vehicle is FWD or AWD to prepare for transferring AWD-specific components if necessary.
🔎 Where to look: Check the 17-digit VIN plate on the driver's side dashboard and the Safety Compliance Certification Label on the driver's door jamb.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

12 to 24 hoursshop labor$1,800 to $4,800typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Camshaft Holding Tool / Alignment Kit (Ford OEM 303-1530)
  • Crankshaft Vibration Damper Remover/Installer (Ford OEM 303-1521)
  • Quick-Disconnect Tool Set
  • Engine hoist/lift
  • Subframe support fixture
  • Torque-angle gauge
🔌 Wiring harness: You must reuse your vehicle's original engine wiring harness to ensure all electrical connections match your vehicle's specific options and build date.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • 6.0 quarts of premium synthetic blend or full synthetic 5W-20 engine oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C945-B1
  • New Motorcraft oil filter (or equivalent high-quality OEM-spec filter)
  • 10.2 quarts of Motorcraft Orange or Yellow Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44-D2 (or VC-13-G Yellow)
  • 6 new double-platinum or iridium spark plugs (e.g., Motorcraft SP-520 or SP-580) gapped to 0.049–0.053 inches
  • Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets (plenum gaskets)
  • Front and rear crankshaft seals
  • Exhaust manifold gaskets
  • Thermostat housing gaskets
  • New OEM torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts (crankshaft pulley bolt, camshaft phaser bolts)
  • 15.2 fl oz of 75W-140 synthetic gear oil for the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) (AWD models only)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Profile Relearn and PATS Key Relearn

Sources differ on security programming: one indicates no security remarriage is needed if reusing the original PCM, while another states a PATS key relearn/re-marriage is required to start. A dealer-level scan tool (such as Ford IDS/FDRS) is required to perform the CKP sensor profile relearn and integrate the engine with the vehicle's control modules.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Proactively replace the internal water pump, timing chains, tensioners, and guides on the engine stand before installation.
  • Always replace torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts (crankshaft pulley and camshaft phaser bolts) with new OEM fasteners; do not reuse.
  • The Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) solenoids are extremely fragile and protrude through the valve covers; avoid snapping them during engine installation.
  • For AWD models, transfer the PTU and its mounting brackets. Wrap the exhaust pipe below the PTU in aluminum foil during fluid swap to prevent gear oil drips.
  • Use specific threaded puller holes to remove the timing cover; prying on the aluminum cover will gouge the sealing surfaces and cause leaks.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering this engine for a 2017 Continental built on or after August 24, 2016, due to mid-year production changes in sensor connectors, cam phasers, and wiring harnesses.
  • Failing to flush the cooling system of milky sludge if the original engine failed due to a ruptured internal water pump, which will contaminate the new engine.
  • Reusing torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts, which lose clamping force and can cause catastrophic engine failure.
  • Using generic universal coolant or incorrect oil viscosity instead of Ford-specified fluids.
  • Skipping the required CKP relearn and module programming, leading to rough running, misfire codes, or a no-start condition.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-09272-4180130). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
