Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm the 1st digit of the VIN is 'K' (built in Korea).
  • Confirm the 8th digit of the VIN is '7' (2.4L gasoline engine).
  • Confirm the vehicle production date on the door jamb is from 04/28/14.
  • Locate the barcode sticker on top of the original bell housing and verify part number 45000-3B724.
🔎 Where to look: Barcode sticker on top of the bell housing or transmission number etched into the metal case.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6.0 to 9.0 hoursshop labor$750 to $1,500 USDtypical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine support bar / hoist
  • Subframe/transmission jack
  • Torque wrench
  • Bidirectional OBD-II scan tool
🔌 Wiring harness: Main 16-pin wiring harness connector and mounting brackets differ between US-built and Korean-built models. Ensure your vehicle is Korean-built (VIN starting with KNA).

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Kia Genuine ATF SP-IV (7.1 to 10.0 Quarts for full system flush/dry fill)
  • Front pump input shaft / torque converter seal
  • Axle seals
  • Transmission cooler-line flush solvent (or OEM cooler flushing kit Part # UM013 CH060)

What’s involved: TCM Adaptive Values Reset / Relearn

A TCM adaptive values reset must be performed using a compatible bidirectional scan tool immediately after installation, followed by a specific drive cycle. Skipping this step will cause severe shift shock, slipping, or delayed engagement.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque converter must be spun and pushed until it clicks/drops three distinct times to fully seat. Forcing the transmission to the engine block with an unseated converter will instantly crack the internal oil pump gear.
  • The transmission filter is located deep inside the center of the case and cannot be serviced or replaced without completely splitting the transmission case in half.
  • The front subframe must be perfectly aligned with its alignment dowels when bolting it back to the chassis to prevent steering and alignment issues.
  • The post-install TCM adaptive value reset is mandatory to prevent premature clutch wear.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering by model year alone without verifying the VIN build location (Korea-built 'KNA' vs US-built '5XX').
  • Using incorrect fluid types (such as older SP-III or generic multi-vehicle fluids) instead of SP-IV spec fluid.
  • Checking the fluid level with the engine off or at the wrong temperature. The vehicle must be level, engine idling in Park, and fluid temperature between 122°F and 140°F.
  • Skipping the transmission cooler and line flush, which introduces trapped debris from the failed unit into the replacement transmission.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeTransmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Failure (TSB 20-AT-014H / 15-AT-011)2011-2020

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the internal wiring harness/sensor assembly if trouble codes P0711, P0712, or P0713 are triggered.

moderateShift Control Solenoid Valve 'F' (SS-B) Fault (P2709)2011-2020

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace specific solenoids rather than the entire transaxle assembly.

severeUnderdrive Piston Lip Seal Wear2011-2020

🔎 Recommended at install: Rebuild or replace internal lip seals to restore fluid pressure.

moderateOutdated Transmission Software / Harsh Shifting2011-2017

🔎 Recommended at install: Perform TCM software updates to improve shift logic.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-63198-2079807). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
