Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm vehicle has the 3.5L V6 engine, not the 2.4L 4-cylinder.
  • Locate the white barcode sticker on the original transmission case and verify the code (P79A or M97A).
  • Verify the 4th, 5th, and 6th digits of the VIN are CP3 (Sedan) or CS2 (Coupe).
  • Verify the 10th digit of the VIN is B (2011) or C (2012).
  • Verify the vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD), as this unit will not fit All-Wheel Drive (AWD) models.
🔎 Where to look: Look for a white barcode sticker on the top or side of the transmission case, typically visible from the engine bay near the starter motor or under the air intake box.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

7.0 to 12.0shop labor900 to 1800typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine support bar / hoist
  • Subframe jack / jack stands
  • 36mm axle nut socket
  • Torque wrench
  • Transmission jack
🔌 Wiring harness: Swap external sensors and solenoids from your original transmission onto the replacement unit to ensure compatibility and avoid minor electronic differences.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Honda Genuine ATF-DW1 fluid (approx. 8 to 9 quarts for a complete swap/flush)
  • External inline cartridge-style filter (Honda P/N 25430-PLR-003)
  • Left and Right Axle (Driveshaft) Seals
  • Torque Converter Seal (input shaft seal)
  • Transmission cooler-line flush aerosol or machine

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

✅ Not requiredprogramming / calibration✅ Nodealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Adaptive Relearn

No VIN-specific programming or security re-marriage is required. However, performing a PCM reset / adaptive relearn procedure is highly recommended to clear old shift adaptives and calibrate the PCM/TCM to the replacement unit.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated into the transmission's front pump (multiple clicks/drops). If not fully seated, bolting the transmission to the engine will break the internal oil pump.
  • Proper Fluid Check Procedure: Honda fluid level must be checked with the engine turned OFF, within 60 to 90 seconds of shutting down at normal operating temperature. Checking with the engine running leads to severe underfilling or overfilling.
  • External Inline ATF Filter: Must replace the external inline filter (P/N 25430-PLR-003) located on top of the transmission case, as it is highly prone to clogging and causing overheating.
  • Dowel Pins: Ensure alignment dowel pins between the engine and transmission are clean and in place to prevent input shaft issues.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for a 2008-2010 Accord V6 (B97A) assuming all 8th-gen V6 transmissions are interchangeable.
  • Using generic multi-vehicle ATF instead of Honda Genuine ATF-DW1, which causes severe shudder and harsh shifting.
  • Failing to perform a professional cooler-line flush, which recirculates old debris and ruins the replacement unit.
  • Forcing the transmission onto the engine using bellhousing bolts when the torque converter is not fully seated.
  • Failing to swap original, known-working solenoids and pressure switches if the replacement unit experiences shifting issues after install.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeTorque Converter Clutch (TCC) Shudder & Slip / DTC P07412008-2012

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the torque converter (included) and use fresh, high-quality fluid. Honda TSB 17-017 for later models suggests multiple fluid flushes and software updates.

moderateDriveshaft Seal Leaks2011-2012

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace both the left and right axle seals with brand-new OEM seals during installation.

moderateShift Solenoid & Pressure Switch Failures2011-2012

🔎 Recommended at install: Clean or replace external solenoids and pressure switches (such as the 3rd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch, DTC P0847).

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-51793-1892408). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
