After installing the replacement transmission, the oil pressure characteristic data from the new unit must be programmed into the vehicle's Powertrain Control Module (PCM) or Transmission Control Module (TCM). This is done using a Hyundai-specific diagnostic tool to scan a QR code or manually input the serial number from the tag on the transmission case.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- CRITICAL: Take a Photo of the QR Code Sticker Before Installation! Once the transmission is bolted in, the barcode/QR code sticker on top of the case will be completely covered by the battery tray, intake ducting, and wiring harnesses.
- Torque Converter Seating: When installing the torque converter onto the transmission, you must spin and push it until it clicks into place three times. If the converter is not fully seated, bolting the transmission to the engine block will squeeze and crack the internal oil pump gear, destroying the transmission instantly upon engine startup.
- Strict Fluid Level Checking Temperature: There is no dipstick. To check the fluid level, the vehicle must be perfectly level on a lift with the engine running. The overflow plug on the side of the case must only be opened when the fluid temperature is strictly between 50°C and 60°C (122°F to 140°F).
- Mandatory Cooler-Line Flush: You must thoroughly flush the transmission cooler lines and the radiator cooler with a dedicated transmission flush solvent to clear out any metal shavings or debris from your old, failed transmission.
