Automatic Transmission Assembly for 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler
Product Notes Read before buying
IMPORTANT: 2018 was a split model year for the Jeep Wrangler. This transmission ONLY fits the 2018 Wrangler 'JK' body style (the 6th digit of your VIN will be a 'W'). It will NOT fit the redesigned 2018 Wrangler 'JL' body style, which uses a different 8-speed transmission.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Confirm the 6th digit of the 17-digit VIN is 'W' (identifies JK body style).
- Confirm the engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6.
- Confirm the vehicle is a 4WD model.
- Locate the transmission fill tube on the passenger side to verify it has a capped tube without a factory dipstick.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Heavy-duty transmission jack with safety chains/straps
- Torx T30 socket
- Specialized Mercedes/Chrysler transmission dipstick tool
- OBD2 scan tool capable of reading real-time transmission fluid temperature
- OBD2 scan tool/app capable of performing a TCM adaptive reset
- Torque wrench
- Fluid pump or fill adapter
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Licensed Mopar ATF+4 (MS-9602) fluid (approx. 8.1 to 9.0 quarts for dry fill)
- Transmission filter (OEM Mopar 52108325AA or Wix 58845)
- Pan gasket (Mopar 52108332AA)
- Torque converter seal (front pump input seal)
- 13-pin connector sleeve (Mopar 68021352AA)
- Transmission cooler line flush
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: TCM Adaptive Relearn / Quick Learn
A full security/immobilizer re-marriage or VIN-specific programming is not required. However, a TCM adaptive reset / 'Quick Learn' is necessary to clear old wear-adaptation values and prevent harsh shifting or limp mode. This can be performed with a high-quality bidirectional scan tool or DIY app like OBD JScan.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Must push and rotate the converter until it engages the splines with three distinct clicks/drops. Tightening bellhousing bolts on an unseated converter will instantly crack the internal oil pump gear.
- Exhaust Crossover Pipe Interference: The crossover pipe runs directly beneath the transmission oil pan and must be unbolted/lowered to clear the transmission during removal and installation.
- Checking Fluid Level Without a Dipstick: Requires an aftermarket dipstick tool and a scan tool to monitor transmission fluid temperature, cross-referencing the fluid height in millimeters against the factory temperature-to-fill chart with the engine running in Park.
- Engine Alignment Dowel Pins: Ensure both alignment dowel pins are present in the engine block to prevent misalignment and rapid wear of the converter hub, pump bushing, or flexplate.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Forcing the Bellhousing Bolts: Using bolts to draw the transmission flush to the engine when the torque converter is not fully seated, cracking the oil pump.
- Using Generic or Incorrect Fluid: Using Dexron, Mercon, or generic fluids instead of licensed Mopar ATF+4, causing severe clutch chatter and shudder.
- Reusing the Old 13-Pin Connector Sleeve: Reusing the old sleeve leads to fluid leaks that can wick up the wiring harness and ruin the external TCM.
- Incorrect Fluid Level Checks: Checking fluid level with the engine off, or cold without a scan tool temperature reading, leading to overfilling or underfilling.
- Skipping the Cooler Flush: Failing to flush the cooler lines, which introduces debris from the previous failed unit into the replacement transmission.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace torque converter, address fluid contamination, or replace worn valve body components/TCC solenoid.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the internal plastic conductor plate housing speed sensors N2 and N3.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the plastic electrical connector guide bushing/plug adapter O-rings to prevent fluid wicking into the TCM.
🔎 Recommended at install: Dealer inspection and installation of the correct park lock rod.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the power steering return tube assembly.
🔎 Recommended at install: Update TCM software calibration.
🔎 Recommended at install: Update TCM software.
🔎 Recommended at install: Reprogram PCM / TCM.

Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
