  • Internal Water Pump Delete Idler Gear: The engine uses an external water pump but retains an internal idler sprocket with seals blocking old coolant passages. If these seals fail, coolant leaks into the engine oil. Inspect these seals if the timing cover is removed.
  • High-Pressure Fuel System Safety: The PFDI system operates up to 2,900+ psi. Reusing the torque-to-yield high-pressure fuel lines or direct injector seals is a major fire hazard; they must be replaced.
  • AWD Front Differential Clearance: On AWD models, the front axle shafts and differential mount directly adjacent to the oil pan, requiring careful alignment during engine drop-in.
  • Tight Manifold Bolt: One lower intake manifold bolt is too long to be fully removed while the engine is in the vehicle; the manifold must be lifted out with the bolt captured in its bore.
