Know This Engine Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:
- Confirm the 8th digit of the VIN is 'P'.
- Verify if the vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to transfer the correct oil pan and brackets.
- Inspect existing turbochargers for shaft play, oil pooling, or cracked wastegates since turbos are not included.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Heavy-duty engine support bar
- Subframe cradle jack
- Quick-disconnect tools for fuel and turbo lines
- Ford Camshaft Alignment Tool Kit (OTC 303-1655)
- Ford IDS or Forscan diagnostic scan tool
Budget for these consumables at install:
- 6.0 quarts of 5W-30 Full Synthetic oil (Ford WSS-M2C946-B1)
- Motorcraft FL-2062-A or FL-910S oil filter
- Motorcraft Yellow Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant (Ford WSS-M97B57-A2)
- 6 new Motorcraft spark plugs (gapped to 0.030"-0.033")
- Intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower)
- Exhaust manifold gaskets
- Turbocharger mounting gaskets, oil feed/drain line O-rings, and coolant line crush washers
- Front and rear crankshaft main seals
- Torque-to-yield fasteners (flywheel/flexplate bolts, harmonic balancer bolt, turbo mounting bolts)
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Relearn and optional PCM active mount diagnostic disable
A Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor relearn is mandatory for the vehicle to run correctly and avoid misfire codes. If replacing active mounts with solid mounts per TSB 21-2121, a PCM reprogram is also required. Security/PATS relearn may be needed depending on the scan tool used.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Drop the engine and transmission out of the bottom of the vehicle on the subframe cradle; do not attempt to pull it from the top.
- Meticulous oil pan sealing is required. The block surface must be 100% dry and clean before applying TA-357 sealant. Torque plastic pan bolts to exactly 89 lb-in.
- Align AWD PTU carefully. Clean and grease splines, and ensure the intermediate shaft is fully seated to prevent fluid leaks.
- Do not reuse turbo coolant line retaining clips or O-rings; buy brand-new clips to avoid hard-to-reach coolant leaks.
- Handle fragile plastic cooling and vacuum components with extreme care.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Reusing old turbo gaskets, metal seals, or rubber O-rings when transferring turbos.
- Incorrect oil level readings due to slow drain-back. You must wait at least 15 minutes after engine shutdown before checking the dipstick to avoid overfilling.
- Reusing torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts like the flexplate or harmonic balancer bolts.
- Skipping the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor relearn and assuming the replacement engine is defective.
- Not inspecting transferred accessories and turbochargers for internal debris or wear before installation.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace active mounts with updated solid rubber mounts and reprogram PCM to disable active mount diagnostics.
🔎 Recommended at install: Remove pan, clean block surface with specialized metal cleaners, and install new pan using Ford TA-357 high-adhesion silicone sealant.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the complete cylinder head assembly.
🔎 Recommended at install: Address oil pooling in turbocharger center housing or intake tract.
🔎 Recommended at install: Periodic professional cleaning such as walnut blasting.

Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
