⚠ turbo NOT included ✓ runs nice
This is a used part. This 2.7L engine was professionally tested and runs well. It is for vehicles with an automatic transmission and option code L3B. It does not include the turbocharger, electrical system, or induction system. You may need to change the induction and electrical systems or compare injectors to work with your vehicle. Built for the US market; verify your vehicle's 8th VIN digit is K.

This is the high-output 2.7L Turbo engine, also known as the TurboMax (option code L3B). It is not compatible with the lower-output 2.7L engine (option code L2R) found in some base model Chevrolet Colorado trucks. The turbocharger assembly is sold separately and is not included with this engine.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of your VIN is 'K'.
  • Confirm drivetrain configuration (2WD vs. 4WD) to determine if you need to transfer your original oil pan, oil pickup tube, and front differential mounting brackets.
  • Acknowledge that you must transfer your original turbocharger, wastegate actuator, and high-pressure fuel lines, and ensure your current turbocharger is in reusable condition.
🔎 Where to look: The physical engine broadcast code is printed on a label located on the engine's front cover. The VIN plate is located at the base of the windshield or on the driver's door jamb sticker.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

12 to 15 hoursshop labor$1,500 – $2,500typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • EN-52461 Camshaft Timing Tool Kit / Camshaft Torque Reaction Tool
  • GM GDS2 Diagnostic Scan Tool
  • GM EN-52462-A Camshaft Alignment Tools
  • GM EN-52476 Flywheel Locking Tool
  • Timing Chain Retention Tool
🔌 Wiring harness: The main engine harness should be included if possible, but installers should be prepared to swap the harness from the original engine if any connectors are damaged or different. Ensure proper routing to prevent chafing against sharp metal edges.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • 6.0 quarts of full synthetic 5W-30 oil meeting GM dexos1 Gen 3 specification
  • ACDelco PF66 (or equivalent high-quality) oil filter
  • 3 to 4 gallons of pre-mixed 50/50 Dex-Cool coolant
  • High-Pressure Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe (GM Part No. 12663312) - single-use only
  • Intake manifold gasket set
  • Turbocharger mounting gasket and oil/coolant line O-rings
  • Fuel injector seals
  • Thermostat housing / water outlet seal and thermostat
  • Fresh set of OEM ACDelco iridium spark plugs
  • Rear main seal, front crankshaft seal, valve cover gaskets, and oil pan gasket (best practice)
  • Torque-to-yield (TTY) bolts (if any are removed during transfer/disassembly)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Turbocharger Wastegate Learn, Fuel Injector Flow Rate Programming, Crankshaft Position (CKP) Relearn, and ECM Security/Immobilizer Remarriage

A GM-specific scan tool (like GDS2 or Tech 2) is required to perform the security relearn, CKP variation relearn, Turbocharger Wastegate Learn, and any necessary software flashing. If using the replacement engine's injectors, their unique flow-rate calibration codes must be programmed into the ECM.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Electronic Wastegate Sensitivity: Handle the electronic wastegate actuator with extreme care. Do not manually force the actuator arm. Perform the GDS2 'Wastegate Learn' before driving.
  • Wiring Harness Routing: Ensure the harness is securely clipped into all factory brackets to prevent it from rubbing against the sharp metal edges of the camshaft carrier cover.
  • Integrated Exhaust Manifold Torque: Use extreme caution when bolting up the exhaust downpipe to the aluminum cylinder head. Use a new gasket, apply anti-seize, and torque strictly to factory specifications.
  • Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: These are single-use bolts and must be replaced if removed.
  • Timing Tools: Do not attempt to service the timing chain or camshafts without the correct locking and alignment tools (EN-52461, EN-52462-A, EN-52476).

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Reusing the High-Pressure Fuel Line: Reusing this single-use pipe almost always results in a high-pressure fuel leak and severe fire hazard.
  • Skipping the Wastegate Relearn: Failing to run the GDS2 calibration after transferring the turbocharger causes immediate limp mode and fault codes.
  • Using the Wrong Oil Specification: Using standard 5W-30 instead of GM dexos1 Gen 3 certified oil leads to rapid oil breakdown, carbon buildup, and timing chain wear.
  • 'Babying' the Engine Post-Install: Excessively low RPM driving prevents proper piston ring seating and increases carbon buildup on direct-injection intake valves.
  • Not Verifying the VIN: Ordering without confirming the 8th digit of the VIN is 'K'.
  • Ignoring the 'LESS TURBO' Note: Expecting the turbocharger to be included with the assembly.
  • Not Cleaning Ancillary Parts: Failing to clean metal debris from the original engine failure out of the transferred turbocharger, intercooler, and plumbing.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

moderateFuel Injector Flow Rate Inconsistency (Emission Recall N232427950 / Field Action N24-245213)2023

🔎 Recommended at install: GM dealers replace all four fuel injectors and seals with a flow-matched set.

severeEngine Block Casting Defect (Customer Satisfaction Program N232415060)2023

🔎 Recommended at install: GM replaces the entire engine assembly under this program. Our donor engine has been thoroughly inspected and verified free of any casting defects.

moderateCamshaft Sliding Lobe Binding (TSB PIP5865L)2019–2026

🔎 Recommended at install: GM outlines a specific diagnostic 'sleep cycle' and engine revving procedure to unstick the lobes. If binding persists, the actuator solenoids or the camshaft assembly must be replaced.

minorTop-End Ticking Noise (TSB PIP6101A)2025–2026

🔎 Recommended at install: Dealerships inspect and replace the affected hydraulic lash adjusters and roller followers.

moderateEngine Wiring Harness Chafing (TSB 21-NA-149)2019–2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect the harness for wear, repair any damaged wires, and wrap the harness with high-temperature protective insulating tape.

minorECM Reprogramming for Fuel Injector Control (Service Update N242450631)2019–2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Dealers are instructed to reprogram the ECM with updated software to correct this.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10679-5377186). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
