This is a used part. This 2.3L turbocharged EcoBoost engine was tested and runs well. This assembly is sold without the turbocharger and includes the engine components up to the flywheel. Built for the US market. Verify your vehicle's 8th VIN digit is H. Warning: The electrical and induction systems may vary, so please compare and switch parts from your original engine as needed. Warning: Do not remove the harmonic balancer unless necessary, as the lower timing gear is not keyed to the crankshaft. If the motor is turned while the balancer is off, it will cause engine damage.

This is a 2.3L turbocharged engine assembly for vehicles with the 8th VIN digit 'H'. This assembly is sold as a long block and does not include the turbocharger. To ensure proper function, you may need to transfer over electrical components, sensors, and accessories from your original engine.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Confirm the 8th digit of the 17-digit VIN is 'H'.
  • Confirm the vehicle is All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
  • Inspect the original turbocharger to ensure it is in good working order to transfer to the replacement engine.
🔎 Where to look: Check the 17-digit VIN plate located on the driver's side dashboard or door jamb for 'H' in the 8th position.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

12 to 20 hoursshop labor$1,800 to $4,000typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Ford EcoBoost 2.0L/2.3L Engine Timing Tool Kit (OE 303-1521, 303-1565, 303-507)
  • Harmonic Balancer Puller/Installer
  • Torque Angle Gauge
  • Engine hoist
  • Engine stand
  • Metric socket/wrench set
  • Torque wrench
  • Dealer-level scan tool (Ford IDS/FDRS or high-end professional aftermarket tool)
🔌 Wiring harness: You must reuse your vehicle's original engine wiring harness.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • 5.7 quarts of full synthetic 5W-30 motor oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C946-A
  • New Motorcraft FL-910S oil filter (or equivalent)
  • Ford-approved Orange or Yellow coolant (Motorcraft VC-13-G or VC-13DL-G) mixed 50/50 with distilled water
  • 4 new Motorcraft SP-550-X spark plugs (gapped to 0.028-0.031 inches)
  • New intake manifold gasket
  • New exhaust manifold gasket
  • New valve cover gasket
  • New high-pressure fuel pump O-ring
  • New Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (Ford Part # P2GZ-6A340-A) - Torque-to-Yield (TTY)
  • New flywheel/flexplate bolts (TTY)
  • New cylinder head bolts (TTY)
  • New camshaft gear bolts (TTY)
  • New diamond-coated friction washers (Ford Part # 1S7Z-6378-AA)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction (Crankshaft Position Sensor Relearn) and PATS Security/Immobilizer Parameter Reset

sources differ: Arm 1 states ECU remarriage is not required if original ECU is reused, but requires Crankshaft Relearn. Arm 2 states a PATS Parameter Reset is required to prevent a no-start condition. Cautious value 'yes' selected for dealer tool and programming requirements.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • The Keyless Crankshaft Pulley: The crankshaft pulley and timing chain sprocket are NOT keyed. They are held by friction washers and the clamping force of the TTY bolt. Do NOT loosen without timing tools installed.
  • Friction Washers: Must replace the thin diamond-coated friction washers behind the crankshaft sprocket and harmonic balancer if removed.
  • AWD PTU / Transfer Case Alignment: Must carefully align and bolt the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) to the transmission and engine block, and grease intermediate shaft splines.
  • PATS Immobilizer Programming: Parameter reset is required to prevent a no-start condition.
  • Fragile Covers: Plastic engine appearance cover, valve cover, and intake manifold can be easily damaged during removal (SSM 46281).
  • Turbo Transfer: Carefully transfer the turbo and its associated oil and coolant lines from the old engine.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Reusing the Crankshaft Pulley Bolt or other Torque-to-Yield (TTY) bolts, leading to timing slippage and catastrophic engine failure.
  • Ordering for a Non-AWD Vehicle, as the oil pan, accessory brackets, and transmission mounting points will not line up.
  • Not replacing the diamond-coated friction washers.
  • Failing to perform the Crank Relearn or PATS Parameter Reset, resulting in poor running or a no-start condition.
  • Reusing a worn or failing turbocharger from the original engine without professional inspection.
  • Ignoring the inherent coolant intrusion risk of this engine generation.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-09211-5491646). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
