A Crankshaft Position (CKP) System Variation Learn is mandatory to prevent DTC P0315/P1336, rough idling, and disabled traction control. An Immobilizer Relearn is also required to synchronize the ECM with the vehicle security system. While dealer-level tools are official, high-end professional aftermarket scan tools can perform both procedures.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

• High-Pressure Fuel Line Replacement: The metal high-pressure fuel line is a single-use, torque-to-yield component. Reusing it carries an extremely high risk of fuel leaks and engine bay fire.
• Torque-to-Yield Crankshaft Balancer Bolt: The harmonic balancer bolt is a TTY fastener. Reusing it will cause it to stretch, lose clamping force, and back out, destroying the crankshaft snout.
• Thermostat Housing and Coolant Temp Sensor: The plastic housing is prone to cracking. Replace both the thermostat assembly and the coolant temperature sensor while the engine is out of the vehicle due to poor access later.
• Meticulous Coolant Bleeding: This engine easily traps air pockets. Use a vacuum coolant refilling tool to prevent localized overheating and dashboard sloshing noises.
• Grounding Locations: Ensure all engine and transmission ground strap locations are clean and tight upon reinstallation to avoid electrical issues.
