Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Verify VIN and confirm vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) with no rear driveshaft or rear differential.
  • Confirm engine is the 3.3L V6 (check emissions label or 8th digit of VIN).
  • Locate the barcode label on top of the transmission case and verify OEM part number 45000-3BGG0.
  • Verify the etched case code next to the barcode begins with 'BA'.
🔎 Where to look: Barcode label on top of the transmission case near the bellhousing, or etched metal case code beginning with 'BA'.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

7.0 to 10.0shop labor900 to 1800typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine support bar or heavy-duty transmission jack
  • Professional scan tool (Kia GDS/KDS or equivalent bi-directional tool)
  • Torque wrench
  • Fluid pump or suction gun
🔌 Wiring harness: Older versions used a multi-piece internal harness; updating to the one-piece harness with integrated TFT sensor is highly recommended during swap.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Hyundai/Kia Genuine ATF SP-IV (SP-4) fluid (7.8 to 8.2 Quarts / 7.8 Liters)
  • New plastic side cover gasket (if inspecting valve body)
  • New internal oil filter (requires case split, typically pre-installed)
  • New front pump / torque converter seal
  • New axle shaft seals
  • Professional aerosol transmission cooler flush (e.g., Lubegard Kooler Kleen)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

What’s involved: TCM Adaptive Value Reset and Relearn

A dealer-level scan tool (Kia GDS/KDS or high-end equivalent) is required to clear the old transmission's adaptive memory. A specific drive-cycle relearn must then be performed. Failure to do so will cause severe shift shocks and premature clutch failure.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Must feel three distinct clicks/drops to ensure it is fully seated on the input shaft and pump gears. Failing to do so will crush the internal oil pump upon bolting to the engine.
  • Fluid Fill and Level Check: No dipstick. Must fill through top plug, run through gears, monitor TFT via scan tool until it reaches 122-140 deg F (50-60 deg C), and check level via the overflow plug on the side cover.
  • Cooler & Line Flush: Debris from the failed unit must be completely flushed out to prevent immediate contamination and warranty voiding.
  • Crankshaft Position Sensor: Located near the top of the bellhousing and is easily damaged during removal/installation.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering FWD instead of AWD or vice versa (must physically check for rear driveshaft/differential).
  • Skipping the TCM adaptive relearn procedure before driving.
  • Using incorrect fluid (using SP-III or generic Dexron VI instead of SP-IV).
  • Reusing the old front pump seal.
  • Improper torque converter installation leading to cracked pump gears.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeBrake-Shift Interlock Failure (Recall 15V611000 / Kia Campaign SC125)2014–2015

🔎 Recommended at install: Dealer must replace the shifter interlock mechanism to prevent unintended rollaway.

moderateShift Solenoid Faults (TSB TRA 051 / TSBTRA051R1)All models with 6-speed automatic

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace individual faulty solenoids on the valve body (DTCs P0741, P0743, P0748, etc.) rather than the entire transmission.

moderateTransmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Failure (TSB 043 Rev 2)Older versions with multi-piece internal harness

🔎 Recommended at install: Install the updated one-piece internal wiring harness with integrated sensor (OEM part 46386-3B900) to resolve DTCs P0711, P0712, or P0713.

severeFront Pump Seal LeaksAll production years

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the front pump/torque converter seal prior to installation to prevent rapid fluid loss and clutch destruction.

moderateRight Front Axle Shaft Fracture (Recall 13V-356 / SC099)Some 2014 Sorento FWD models with 2.4L engine

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect front axle integrity on this vehicle platform.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-62710-4334176). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
