Automatic Transmission Assembly for 2009-2010 Audi A4, A5
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a 6-speed automatic transmission for 2.0L turbocharged models with AWD (quattro) only. Please verify your vehicle has a 6-speed transmission, as an 8-speed unit was introduced in 2011. This unit corresponds to transmission codes KXT and LML.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Confirm vehicle is an AWD (quattro) model, not FWD.
- Verify the 3-letter transmission code on the build sticker (trunk spare tire well or maintenance booklet) is KXT or LML.
- Verify the engine code is CAEB (2.0L TFSI).
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Engine support bar
- Heavy-duty transmission jack
- Torx T27 and Torx T40 sockets
- 16mm tamperproof XZN triple-square socket
- 12-point triple-square sockets for driveshaft/bellhousing
- Pressurized fluid fill pump with Audi-specific hook adapter
- VCDS (Vag-Com) or ODIS diagnostic scan tool
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Transmission Fluid (ATF): sources differ on fluid spec — Lifeguard 8 (G 060 162 A2, green) vs Lifeguard 6 (G 055 005 A2) — confirm with us before install
- Internal Transmission Filter (Part # 0B6325429)
- Oil Pan Gasket (Part # 09E321371A)
- Torque Converter Hub / Input Shaft Seal
- Axle Output Seals
- Transmission Cooler-Line Flush Solvent
- Single-use aluminum stretch bolts for transmission crossmember and mounts
- Cooler line O-rings (Part # N90666003)
- Mechatronic Connector Sleeve
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Component Protection (Immobilizer Re-marriage) AND TCM Adaptive Relearn
The TCM is integrated into Audi's Component Protection system. Upon installation, the vehicle will enter limp mode until Component Protection is cleared. This requires a dealer-level ODIS scan tool with an active online GeKo connection to re-marry the unit to the vehicle's immobilizer (BCM2). A TCM adaptive relearn must also be performed.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated (three distinct clicks/drops) before bolting to the engine. If not fully seated, mating the engine and transmission will instantly crush the internal oil pump.
- Fluid Fill Temperature & Procedure: Must be filled on a level lift with the engine running. The final level check must be performed strictly when fluid temperature is between 30°C and 50°C (ideally 35°C–45°C) using a scan tool.
- X-Brace and Crossmember Removal: Removing the structural aluminum subframe reinforcement can affect front suspension alignment if the subframe shifts.
- Cooler Line Flush: Failing to flush the cooler lines will introduce old debris into the replacement unit, clogging solenoids and voiding the warranty.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Attempting to drive without removing Component Protection, assuming the transmission is defective when it enters anti-theft limp mode.
- Reusing old transmission fluid or using generic/incorrect ATF instead of the manufacturer-specified fluid.
- Reusing single-use aluminum stretch bolts, which can snap or back out over time.
- Failing to flush the transmission cooler, leading to immediate contamination of the replacement unit.
- Failing to properly seat the torque converter, resulting in a cracked oil pump upon installation.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Update TCM software using Audi's Software Version Management (SVM) system.
🔎 Recommended at install: Retorque pan bolts or replace gasket with updated rubber-metal design.

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the torque converter input shaft seal during installation.
🔎 Recommended at install: Perform a complete transmission cooler flush and install a new filter.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace worn solenoids or the valve body separator plate.
Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-51178-1546379). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.
Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
