Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm the 8th digit of the VIN is 'N' (2.0L Turbo engine).
  • Verify the vehicle is AWD with a single-speed transfer case.
  • Locate the transmission ID tag and verify part number 68241675BA and Sales Code DFH.
🔎 Where to look: The transmission ID tag is located on the top right side of the case, directly under the shifter cable bracket (requires removing the PCM and shifter cable bolts to view).

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

8.0 to 11.0 hoursshop labor1200 to 1800typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine support fixture
  • Subframe/transmission jack
  • Mopar Dipstick Tool 10323A
  • Bi-directional scan tool (wiTECH or equivalent)
🔌 Wiring harness: Ensure all ground straps are clean and securely reattached. Verify wiring harness integrity.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Mopar ZF 8&9 Speed ATF (P/N 68218925AA) or ZF Lifeguardfluid 9 (approx. 5.0 to 6.9 quarts depending on service vs dry fill)
  • Torque converter input seal
  • Left and right CV axle seals
  • PTU/Transfer Case O-ring/seal
  • Professional transmission cooler line flush
  • One-time use transmission bracket-to-case bolts (Mopar P/N 06511385AA)

What’s involved: TCM Adaptive Relearn / Quick Learn Procedure

A scan-tool-based Quick Learn and an Adaptive Learn drive cycle are mandatory after installation to match the TCM to the valve body solenoids and learn clutch fill times. Skipping this causes harsh shifting, clutch damage, or limp mode.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque converter must be fully seated in multiple steps before bolting transmission to engine to avoid cracking the fragile fluid pump.
  • Meticulously clean and inspect PTU splines; a worn PTU will quickly strip the new transmission's internal differential splines.
  • Use alignment dowels when re-installing the lowered front subframe to prevent steering and suspension geometry issues.
  • Fluid level must be checked via a plug on the side of the case at a specific temperature (30C-50C) while level, as there is no dipstick.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for the wrong engine (2.4L or 3.2L V6 transmissions will not bolt up or calibrate to the 2.0L Turbo).
  • Using incorrect fluid like ATF+4 or generic red fluid instead of the required low-viscosity green ZF Lifeguard 9 fluid.
  • Skipping the mandatory scan-tool-based Quick Learn and adaptive drive cycle.
  • Failing to flush the transmission cooler lines, which introduces metallic debris from the failed unit into the replacement.
  • Incorrectly checking or filling fluid levels due to the lack of a dipstick.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severePower Transfer Unit (PTU) Spline Failure (NHTSA Recall 26V-290 / FCA 40D / W47)2019

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect existing PTU splines for wear or rust; replace PTU if worn to prevent stripping the new transmission's internal differential splines.

moderateTransmission Case Oil Leak (TSB 21-041-20)2019

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect case split line and tighten lower transmission bolts to updated torque specifications.

moderateErratic Shift Quality (TSB 21-013-16 / TSB 21-014-16 REV. A)2019

🔎 Recommended at install: Perform scan-tool-based Quick Learn procedure and TCM software updates.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-10865-4706466). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
