✓ like new condition
This is a used part in like-new condition. This transmission assembly fits vehicles with the 3.6L engine and 8-speed automatic transmission (850RE). It features adaptive electronic control or Electronic Range Select (ERS) manual control and an electronically modulated torque converter clutch. It fits both 2-door and 4-door models (sales code DFT).

This is an 8-speed automatic transmission for vehicles with the 3.6L V6 GASOLINE engine only. It will NOT fit models with the 2.0L Turbo, 3.0L EcoDiesel, or 4xe Plug-In Hybrid engines. For 2018 Wrangler models, this part fits the NEWER 'JL' body style only (6th digit of VIN is 'X'), not the older 'JK' body style.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm the 8th digit of your vehicle's VIN is 'G' or 'S' (verifying the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine).
  • Verify your Jeep is a 4WD model (Command-Trac or Rock-Trac 4x4 system).
  • Locate the identification tag on the side of your current transmission case to confirm model 850RE (Sales Code DFT) or part number cross-reference (e.g., 68249553AD).
🔎 Where to look: Stamped on a flat pad on the rear bottom left-hand (driver's) side of the transmission case, or on a barcode sticker on the side of the case.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6 to 8 hoursshop labor900 to 1600typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Heavy-duty transmission jack
  • Flex-head ratcheting wrenches
  • Swivel/universal sockets
  • Fluid transfer pump
  • Professional-grade diagnostic scan tool (wiTECH 2.0, JScan, or AlfaOBD)
🔌 Wiring harness: On the JL/JT platform, inspect and secure all wiring harnesses to prevent rubbing against body mounts or other components, which can cause intermittent electrical issues.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Mopar ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF (Part number 68218925AB) or ZF Lifeguard 8 / Lifeguard 9
  • New transmission pan/filter assembly (Mopar part number 68522534AA or equivalent) and fresh gasket
  • Front torque converter seal (front pump input seal)
  • Rear output shaft seal (where the transfer case mounts)
  • Professional high-pressure transmission cooler and line flush

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: VIN-specific programming and adaptive relearn

The integrated TCM contains the donor vehicle's VIN. To prevent security faults or limp mode, a technician must program your vehicle's VIN into the replacement TCM using a factory-level scan tool (such as wiTECH 2.0) and perform a TCM Quick Learn / Adaptive Relearn. Alternatively, you can swap your original, functioning valve body/TCM assembly into this replacement unit to avoid reprogramming.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Must verify the torque converter is fully and deeply seated (typically three distinct drops/clicks) before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the internal oil pump.
  • Strict Fluid Leveling Procedure: No dipstick. Must check fluid level with the vehicle perfectly level, engine running, and fluid temperature strictly between 86°F and 122°F (30°C to 50°C).
  • Dowel Pin Alignment: Ensure engine block alignment dowel pins are clean and perfectly aligned with the bellhousing to prevent cracking the aluminum case.
  • TCM Adaptive Relearn: Must reset the TCM's adaptive memory using a scan tool to prevent harsh, violent shifts from old pressure maps.
  • Cooler Line Flush: Mandatory high-pressure flush of the cooler and lines to prevent old debris from contaminating the replacement unit.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for the wrong engine (e.g., 2.0L Turbo, 3.0L Diesel, or 4xe/392 V8 models).
  • Using generic or ATF+4 fluid instead of the specified Mopar ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF or ZF Lifeguard 8/9.
  • Failing to perform TCM VIN programming and resetting adaptive learning.
  • Checking the transmission fluid level with the engine turned off.
  • Forcing the transmission onto the engine without fully seating the torque converter, cracking the front pump.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-10712-5563260). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
