What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Relearn / Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction and PATS Immobilizer Relearn

Immediately after installing the engine, you must perform a Crankshaft Position Relearn using a dealer-level scan tool or FORScan. Skipping this will trigger false misfire codes and cause limp mode. Additionally, a PATS immobilizer relearn or PCM adaptive memory reset may be required.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

• Front Clip Removal (Service Position): You must remove the entire front bumper, grille, headlights, and radiator core support to extract/install the engine.
• Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: Critical fasteners (harmonic balancer bolt, flywheel/flexplate bolts, cylinder head bolts) are one-time-use and must be replaced.
• AWD vs RWD Oil Pan Swap: If swapping between AWD and RWD configurations, you must transfer your original oil pan, oil pickup tube, and front axle mounting brackets.
• Internal Water Pump: The water pump is driven by the timing chain. It is highly recommended to replace the water pump, timing chain, and tensioners while the engine is out.
• Fragile Plastic Components: The plastic intake manifold and cooling system pipes are highly fragile and prone to cracking if over-torqued or handled roughly.
