3.5L V6 Engine Complete Assembly for 2020-2022 Ford Transit-150, Transit-250, Transit-350
Product Notes Read before buying
This is the naturally aspirated 3.5L V6 engine. It will only fit vehicles with the 8th digit of the VIN as '8'. It is not compatible with the 3.5L EcoBoost (turbo) engine, which has the 8th VIN digit 'G'.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Engine Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:
- Verify the 8th digit of the VIN is '8'.
- Confirm whether the vehicle is Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to prepare for potential oil pan and bracket transfers.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Engine hoist/crane and heavy-duty load leveler
- Ford-specific quick-disconnect tools for fuel and A/C lines
- High-quality torque wrench / torque-angle gauge
- OBD-II scan tool with Ford-specific diagnostic software (FORScan, Ford IDS, FDRS)
- Camshaft holding/locking tools
Budget for these consumables at install:
- 6.0 quarts of SAE 5W-20 motor oil (meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C945-A or WSS-M2C945-B1)
- Motorcraft FL-500S oil filter
- Motorcraft Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant (meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B57-A1 or WSS-M97B57-A2)
- Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets
- Exhaust manifold gaskets
- Thermostat and thermostat gasket
- Front and rear crankshaft seals
- 6x Motorcraft SP-589 spark plugs
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Relearn / Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction and PATS Immobilizer Relearn
Immediately after installing the engine, you must perform a Crankshaft Position Relearn using a dealer-level scan tool or FORScan. Skipping this will trigger false misfire codes and cause limp mode. Additionally, a PATS immobilizer relearn or PCM adaptive memory reset may be required.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Front Clip Removal (Service Position): You must remove the entire front bumper, grille, headlights, and radiator core support to extract/install the engine.
- Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: Critical fasteners (harmonic balancer bolt, flywheel/flexplate bolts, cylinder head bolts) are one-time-use and must be replaced.
- AWD vs RWD Oil Pan Swap: If swapping between AWD and RWD configurations, you must transfer your original oil pan, oil pickup tube, and front axle mounting brackets.
- Internal Water Pump: The water pump is driven by the timing chain. It is highly recommended to replace the water pump, timing chain, and tensioners while the engine is out.
- Fragile Plastic Components: The plastic intake manifold and cooling system pipes are highly fragile and prone to cracking if over-torqued or handled roughly.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Confusing PFDI with EcoBoost: Ordering this naturally aspirated 3.5L PFDI engine (VIN 8th digit = 8) to replace a twin-turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost engine (VIN 8th digit = G).
- Ordering from the wrong vehicle: Buying a 3.5L engine from an F-150 or Explorer, assuming it will fit the Transit.
- Reusing Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: Reusing old TTY fasteners, which can lead to improper clamping force, bolt shearing, or catastrophic engine failure.
- Failing to Prime the Oil System: Starting a dry used engine without performing a 'clear flood' crank to build oil pressure first.
- Ignoring the Water Pump: Installing a high-mileage engine without proactively replacing the internal water pump.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10564-5587819). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.
Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
