This is a used engine assembly for vehicles with a 3.0L diesel engine and automatic transmission. This is a 6-cylinder (L6) turbo diesel engine (option code LM2) with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. The supplier notes this unit runs well but does not include the turbocharger. Built for the US market; verify your vehicle's 8th VIN digit is T. You may need to swap induction, exhaust, electrical, and fuel system components from your original engine.

This is a 3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine, RPO code LM2 (8th VIN digit 'T'). It is critical to verify your vehicle is equipped with this exact engine before ordering. This engine assembly may not include the turbocharger, intake/exhaust manifolds, or other accessories.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of your VIN is 'T'. If it is '8' or '2', you have the newer LZ0 engine and this will not fit.
  • Check the under-hood emissions certification label for RPO code LM2.
  • Look for the Service Parts Identification sticker (usually in the glove box) to confirm the 'LM2' code.
  • Confirm whether your vehicle is 2WD or 4WD to prepare for potential oil pan and pickup tube transfers.
🔎 Where to look: The 8th digit of the VIN must be 'T' and the glove box RPO sticker must list 'LM2'.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

15 to 40 hoursshop labor$2,250 to $6,000typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • EN-52442 Flywheel Holding Tool / Crankshaft Rotator
  • EN-52462 Camshaft Alignment/Locking Tool Set
  • Glow Plug Bore Reamer (Kent-Moore EN-52074)
  • Fuel Filter Socket / KlickWrench
  • Torque-angle meter
🔌 Wiring harness: Ensure correct routing and tension-free installation. Clean all engine block and frame ground contact points to bare metal to prevent communication codes (U-codes) and intermittent no-start issues.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Engine Oil (GM dexosD 0W-20 diesel-specific oil, 7.0 quarts capacity)
  • Oil Filter (ACDelco PF66 or equivalent)
  • Engine Coolant (GM-approved Dex-Cool 50/50 pre-diluted mix)
  • Wet Oil Pump Belt & Bolt (GM Part #55493234)
  • Rear Main Seal
  • Exhaust and Intake Manifold Gaskets
  • High-Pressure Fuel Lines (one-time-use, torque-to-yield)
  • Fuel Filter (ACDelco TP1015)
  • Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Fasteners (including flexplate and cylinder head bolts)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: VIN-specific dealer programming, Crankshaft/Camshaft Position Relearn, Fuel Injector Calibration (IQA Coding), and Glow Plug Calibration

A GM GDS2 diagnostic scan tool or equivalent professional programming tool is required. You must program the unique 30-digit alphanumeric IQA calibration codes stamped on the head of each of the six fuel injectors into the ECM to prevent rough idle, poor fuel economy, or engine damage.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Write down or photograph the 30-digit injector IQA codes before bolting the engine in, as they are extremely difficult to read once installed.
  • Do not skip replacing the rear-mounted wet oil pump belt while the engine is out; doing it later requires removing the transmission and bills at over 10 hours of labor.
  • Glow plug ceramic tips are highly fragile; handle with extreme care, use a bore reamer to clean carbon before installing, and torque strictly to 13 ft-lbs.
  • Clean all engine block and frame ground contact points to bare metal to avoid phantom communication codes and no-start issues.
  • The timing chains and oil pump belt are on the flywheel side of the engine, requiring transmission and flexplate removal to service.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Reusing high-pressure fuel lines, which are one-time-use and can cause micro-leaks and fire hazards if reused.
  • Using incorrect engine oil (such as standard 15W-40 diesel or gasoline 0W-20) instead of dexosD 0W-20, which ruins the emissions system and degrades the wet oil pump belt.
  • Mixing up LM2 (73G, 4.4V) and LZ0 (72G) glow plugs, which look identical but will burn out or damage the control module if interchanged.
  • Skipping the fuel filter service, leading to fuel contamination that ruins the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors.
  • Ignoring the wet oil pump belt replacement during the swap, setting up a very expensive repair down the road.
  • Reusing torque-to-yield flexplate bolts, which can lead to the flexplate separating from the crankshaft.
  • Skipping the mandatory Crankshaft Position (CKP) relearn, resulting in a frustrating 'long crank, no start' condition.
  • Assuming the turbocharger is included despite the listing explicitly stating 'LESS TURBO'.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10548-5595164). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
