This is a used part. It fits vehicles with a 1.6L engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The transmission may need to be programmed to your vehicle to work.

This is a 6-speed automatic transmission for vehicles with the 1.6L engine. It fits the 2-door Coupe and 5-door Hatchback models ONLY; it will not fit the 4-door Sedan. The transmission pan has a dent. This part may require programming to your vehicle to function correctly.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm engine size is 1.6L (Turbocharged for A6MF2)
  • Confirm body style is Coupe (Koup) or Hatchback (Forte5)
  • Locate transmission tag near shifter linkage to verify model code and OE part number
  • Check case etching to see if serial number starts with EA, FA, or NA
🔎 Where to look: Look at the top of your existing transmission case near the shifter cable linkage for a barcode sticker or etched serial number.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6.0 to 10.0 hoursshop labor$600 to $1,600typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine support bar
  • Transmission jack
  • Professional bidirectional scan tool
🔌 Wiring harness: The internal wiring harness (solenoid ribbon harness) is integral and included, but the external range switch (inhibitor switch) and external speed sensors are typically not included and should be transferred from your old unit.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Kia Genuine ATF SP-IV (or compatible synthetic fluid meeting SP-IV specifications)
  • RTV silicone (high-quality ultra-grey for plastic side cover)
  • Front pump/torque converter seal (OE Part Number: 46131-3B600)
  • Transmission cooler-line flush aerosol or machine
  • Axle seals

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Solenoid Oil Pressure Characteristic Value Input (Data Transfer) AND Transmission Control Module (TCM) Adaptive Relearn

Requires inputting the unique barcode/QR code values from the sticker on top of the replacement transmission case into the vehicle's computer to calibrate hydraulic tolerances, followed by clearing the old adaptive learning history and performing a stationary/driving relearn procedure.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Must click into place three times to fully seat. If not fully seated, bolting to the engine will instantly crush and crack the internal oil pump.
  • Solenoid Barcode Sticker: Do not paint over, damage, or remove the barcode/QR code sticker on top of the transmission case.
  • Fluid Level Check Procedure: No dipstick. Must check via level-check plug on the side of the plastic valve body cover with fluid at 122-140 degrees F (50-60 degrees C) while engine is idling in Park.
  • Bellhousing Alignment Dowels: Ensure engine block alignment dowels are in place and undamaged to prevent input shaft binding and leaks.
  • Plastic Pan Caution: Plastic oil pan can crack if the drain plug or pan bolts are over-torqued.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for a Non-Turbo Model: Confusing the 1.6L Turbo transmission (A6MF2) with standard 1.8L or 2.0L non-turbo transmissions.
  • Skipping the Solenoid Programming: Driving without inputting solenoid characteristic barcode values or resetting adaptive learning, leading to immediate violent shifting and clutch burnout.
  • Neglecting the Cooler Flush: Reusing the existing transmission cooler and lines without a thorough flush, introducing debris into the replacement unit.
  • Incorrect Fluid Level Check: Checking fluid level when cold or with the engine off, leading to severe underfill or overfill.
  • Using the Wrong Fluid: Using non-SP-IV compatible multi-vehicle ATF.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeOil Pressure Characteristic Values Data Transfer (TSB TRA067 / NHTSA ID 10127856)GEN2 Type (A6MF2) transmissions

🔎 Recommended at install: Program/write unique solenoid characteristic values printed as a barcode/QR code on top of the transmission case into the vehicle's computer using a dealer-level scan tool.

moderate6-Speed Automatic Transmission Adaptive Value Reset/Relearn (TSB TRA049R1 / NHTSA ID 10089382)2014-2016 Kia Forte

🔎 Recommended at install: Reset computer's adaptive learning values and perform a specific driving relearn procedure.

🔎 Recommended at install: Address wear in reducing valve bores and pressure control solenoids to resolve slipping or harsh shifts.

severeCracked Bellhousing / Mount FailureKia models with low rear mounts

🔎 Recommended at install: Carefully inspect the case and mount area of the donor unit; avoid bottoming out.

moderateTemperature Sensor FailuresEarly versions of internal wiring harness

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace with updated harness that integrates the temperature sensor directly into the ribbon cable.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-63031-4068018). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
