10-Speed Automatic Transmission Assembly for 2022-2026 Cadillac, Chevrolet, & GMC
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a 10-speed automatic transmission for 4-wheel drive (4x4) models with either the 5.3L or 6.2L V8 gas engine.
Fitment on specific models has additional requirements:
- For 2022 Sierra/Silverado 1500, fits 'new style' models only (5th VIN digit H, U, A, or D).
- For 5.3L Sierra/Silverado 1500 and some Tahoe models, this fits vehicles with the mild-hybrid system (option code MHS).
- For some Tahoe/Silverado models, this fits vehicles without the police package.
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Verify shifter type: Must be Electronic Precision Shift (ETRS / shift-by-wire) with console buttons, not a mechanical column shifter.
- Scan or read RPO codes on the driver's side B-pillar QR code or glove box sticker to confirm 'MHS' or 'MQB'.
- Confirm engine size is 6.2L V8 (L87) or 5.3L V8 (L84) by checking the emissions label or the 8th digit of the VIN.
- Confirm 4WD/4x4 drivetrain: Must have front driveshafts and a transfer case.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- High-lift transmission jack with safety straps
- GM transmission line disconnect tool (Ford 307-569 or equivalent J-tool)
- Exhaust pipe hanger/removal tools
- Professional-grade OBD2 scan tool capable of GM SPS2 programming and Transmission Fast Learn
Budget for these consumables at install:
- ACDelco DEXRON ULV (Ultra-Low Viscosity) ATF (GM Part Number 19352619 or Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP)
- Internal transmission filter (GM Part Number 24294355 / ACDelco TF937)
- Pan gasket (GM Part Number 24297886)
- One-time-use stretch filter bolts
- Front pump/torque converter seal
- Transfer case input seal
- Transmission cooler line flush solvent
- Right-hand exhaust flange gasket (GM 61074)
- Left-hand exhaust flange gasket (GM 61089)
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: VIN-specific programming, TCM adaptive relearn (Transmission Fast Learn), and TUN (Transmission Unique Number) / PUN (Part Unique Number) calibration write.
The 10L80 uses a flow-characterized valve body. The replacement unit's TUN/PUN must be programmed into the vehicle's computer using GM Techline Connect (SPS2) or a high-end J2534 pass-thru tool. Driving without programming will cause immediate harsh shifting, shift flares, and permanent clutch pack damage.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque converter must be fully seated in multiple stages. Forcing the transmission to bolt to the engine when the converter is not seated will crack the front pump rotor and destroy the unit.
- The exhaust Y-pipe must be dropped to clear the transmission pan; exhaust bolts are highly prone to seizing.
- The internal thermal bypass valve blocks fluid flow to the cooler below 143°F (61°C). External lines must be bypassed or removed to perform a proper cold flush.
- There is no dipstick. Fluid level must be checked via the level-check plug on the side of the pan with the vehicle level, engine idling, and fluid temperature strictly between 167°F and 176°F (75°C to 80°C).
- An adaptive relearn drive cycle must be followed gently for the first few hundred miles after the in-shop fast learn is complete.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Ordering an ETRS (shift-by-wire) transmission for a cable-shift column vehicle or vice versa.
- Skipping the critical TUN/PUN programming and attempting to drive immediately, which burns out clutches within miles.
- Using incorrect fluid such as Dexron VI or generic multi-vehicle ATF instead of the required DEXRON ULV.
- Reusing one-time-use torque-to-yield filter bolts, which can back out or snap, causing the filter to drop and starve the pump.
- Skipping the mandatory transmission cooler and line flush, leading to immediate contamination from old debris.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: TCM software update to detect wear 10,000 miles before lock-up and restrict shifting to 5th gear as a fail-safe.
🔎 Recommended at install: Software update to detect wear and trigger limp mode.
🔎 Recommended at install: Complete transmission replacement.
🔎 Recommended at install: Repair original valve body with updated internal valves/springs rather than replacing the entire assembly.
🔎 Recommended at install: Install updated Gen-3 service valve body which eliminates the auxiliary valve body and relocates solenoids.
🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect and replace/correct twisted cooler lines.
🔎 Recommended at install: Address wear in the transmission oil pump drive gears.
Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-11316-5315560). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.
Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
