Odometer 90,000 miles 🛡 120-day warranty included
4x4 donor
This is a used part. For vehicles with the 5.7L engine and 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP70). This transmission features option code DFD. The transmission control module is integrated into the valve body. This part may require programming to make the transmission shift properly. Fits four-wheel drive (4x4) models.

For 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, this part fits the WK body style ONLY (the previous generation body style, identified by the 6th digit of the VIN being 'E' or 'F'). It does NOT fit the redesigned WL body style.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of your VIN is 'T' to confirm you have the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine.
  • Confirm your vehicle is a 4x4 or AWD model.
  • Locate the transmission identification tag on the side or rear bottom of the transmission case to verify the model.
🔎 Where to look: Look for a barcode sticker, metal tag, or stamped numbers on the transmission case. Verify the model is stamped as 8HP70 or 8HP75, or matches Chrysler part numbers such as 68412063AA or 68367525AA.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

7-11shop labor1050-1800typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced to ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Heavy-duty transmission jack
  • Vehicle lift
  • OBD2 scan tool capable of reading real-time transmission fluid temperature
  • Fluid transfer pump
  • Torx T40 (long and short) and Torx T20 bits
  • E-torx sockets
  • 8mm and 10mm Allen bit sockets
  • Torque wrench
🔌 Wiring harness: Wiring harnesses differ between RWD and 4x4/AWD models. Ensure you are swapping into a matching 4x4/AWD application.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Mopar 8 & 9 Speed Automatic Transmission Fluid (or ZF Lifeguard Fluid 8)
  • New integrated plastic transmission oil pan, filter, gasket, and mounting bolts
  • Front pump / torque converter seal
  • Rear output shaft seal
  • Transmission cooler-line flush solvent
  • Replacement single-use torque-to-yield driveshaft bolts

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

What’s involved: VIN Flashing, PROXI Alignment, and Transmission Quick Learn

The integrated TCM stores the donor vehicle's VIN. A dealer-level scan tool (such as wiTECH 2.0) or advanced aftermarket software (such as AlfaOBD or JScan) is required to write the new VIN, perform a PROXI alignment to integrate the module, and run a Transmission Quick Learn (Static Adaptation) procedure.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque converter must be fully seated onto the input shaft and pump gears (clicking/dropping back three distinct times) before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the internal oil pump gear.
  • Fluid level must be checked using a highly specific temperature-sensitive procedure strictly between 30°C (86°F) and 50°C (122°F) with the engine running and the vehicle level.
  • Plastic oil pan bolts must be torqued in a specific criss-cross sequence to exactly 10 Nm (88 in-lbs) to prevent warping, cracking, or stripping.
  • Exhaust crossover pipe must be lowered; exhaust flange bolts are highly prone to seizing and snapping and should be treated with penetrating oil.
  • Driveshaft bolts connecting to the transfer case and axles are often single-use torque-to-yield and must be replaced.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Using incorrect fluid such as standard ATF+4 or generic multi-vehicle synthetic fluid instead of Mopar 8 & 9 Speed / ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid.
  • Assuming the unit is plug-and-play and failing to perform the required VIN programming, resulting in the transmission locking in Park or entering limp mode.
  • Skipping the transmission cooler and line flush, which washes old debris and metal shavings directly into the replacement unit.
  • Checking the fluid level with the engine turned off, which causes severe underfilling and immediate clutch damage.
  • Reusing the old plastic pan and clogged integrated filter instead of installing a brand-new assembly.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeIncorrect transmission park lock rod installation (NHTSA Recall 18V280000 / Chrysler U43)Certain 2018 MY vehicles

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect and replace the park lock rod to prevent unexpected vehicle roll-away.

severePCM voltage regulator defect causing engine stall (NHTSA Recall 18V-524 / FCA Campaign U87)Some 2018 Grand Cherokee and Durango models

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

moderateHarsh shifting, poor shift quality, and cold-start shift hesitation (TSB 21-017-16)Model years covered by TSB

🔎 Recommended at install: Reprogram the TCM with updated software calibrations.

🔎 Recommended at install: Note that the factory fluid naturally develops a burnt odor due to its additive formulation; a burnt smell alone is not a valid reason to replace the transmission.

minorHarsh 1-2 Cold ShiftAll compatible years

🔎 Recommended at install: Normal cold-operating characteristic; typically disappears once the fluid reaches operating temperature.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-10534-4956816). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
