Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of the VIN is 'D' (designating the 1.5L EcoBoost engine).
  • Verify the 'TR' code on the driver's door jamb safety label is 'W' or '6'.
  • Confirm the vehicle is AWD/4WD by checking for a rear differential/axle shafts or the 'Intelligent 4WD' dashboard display.
  • Locate the white barcode sticker on top of the current transmission case and verify the part number prefix matches GV6P-7000-BA, GV6P-7000-RA, or GV6Z-7000-B.
🔎 Where to look: Located on the top of the transmission case, typically near the shifter cable bracket.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

8 to 11 hoursshop labor$1,200 – $2,000+typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Transmission floor jack
  • Engine support bar / stand
  • Subframe alignment pins
  • Torque converter alignment tool
  • Ford-compatible scan tool (e.g., OBDLink EX with FORScan or Ford IDS)
  • Allen/hex sockets
  • Axle nut sockets
  • Torque wrench
🔌 Wiring harness: External wiring harness and TCM are not included; must reuse original vehicle harness.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Motorcraft MERCON LV ATF (Part # XT-10-QLV)
  • Torque Converter Seal (Front Pump Seal)
  • Left and Right CV Axle Seals
  • PTU Compression Seal and Intermediate Shaft Seals
  • Transmission Cooler Flush (e.g., Lubegard Kooler Kleen)
  • Transmission Pan Gasket (if pan is removed for inspection)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

What’s involved: Solenoid Body Strategy Programming and Transmission Adaptive Relearn

Every 6F35 transmission has a unique 13-digit solenoid body strategy and a 7-digit/12-digit solenoid body ID stamped on the case. This strategy must be programmed into the vehicle's PCM/TCM using a Ford-compatible scan tool (such as FORScan or Ford IDS) before driving. After programming, clear the transmission adaptive tables and perform the adaptive drive cycle.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Must be fully seated into the front pump (requires three distinct clicks/drops, recessed by about 9/16" or 14mm). Forcing the bellhousing bolts tight when unseated will crack the front pump gear, destroying the transmission instantly.
  • PTU Alignment and Seal: Align splines perfectly when reinstalling the PTU to avoid nicking the new compression seal.
  • Fluid Level Check Procedure: No traditional dipstick. Check fluid level via the leveling plug/standpipe on the side of the case with the engine running, transmission in Park, vehicle level, and fluid temperature between 185°F and 200°F (85°C to 93°C).
  • Subframe Alignment: Must use subframe alignment pins during reinstallation to maintain proper steering geometry.
  • Dowel Pin Alignment: Ensure alignment dowels between the engine block and transmission bellhousing are present and clean to prevent misalignment.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Skipping Solenoid Strategy Programming: Driving without programming the 13-digit strategy code causes immediate harsh shifting, slipping, and clutch damage.
  • Ordering FWD instead of AWD (or vice versa): FWD models lack the mounting bosses and internal splines required to connect to the PTU.
  • Mixing up Engine Sizes: Ordering a 1.5L transmission for a 2.0L or 2.5L engine (bellhousing bolt patterns are completely different).
  • Reusing a Contaminated Cooler: Failing to flush or replace the transmission cooler introduces metallic debris from the previous failed unit, ruining the replacement transmission.
  • Improper Torque Converter Seating: Forcing the transmission to bolt to the engine when the torque converter is not fully seated, breaking the front pump.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-10075-5421811). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
