Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Verify your VIN's 1st digit is 5 (USA built).
  • Verify your VIN's 4th digit is A (specifies the 2.5L QR25DE engine).
  • Verify your engine code reads QR25 on the emissions label or engine block stamp.
  • Confirm whether your vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to prepare for transferring configuration-specific brackets or oil pans.
  • Inspect the condition of your original exhaust manifold's pre-cat.
🔎 Where to look: Check the metal plate at the base of your windshield on the driver's side for the VIN, and the emissions label under the hood for the engine code.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

10 to 18 hoursshop labor$1,500 to $2,700typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine hoist and load leveler
  • Torque wrench
  • Flywheel holding tool (Nissan OEM tool J-48632 or equivalent)
  • OBD-II Scan Tool with Nissan-specific bi-directional capabilities (Consult III+ or equivalent)
  • Transmission jack
🔌 Wiring harness: Wiring harnesses and accessory mounts vary by build origin (USA vs Japan vs Korea). This engine is strictly compatible with USA-built models.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Engine Oil (0W-20 Full Synthetic, approx. 4.8 - 4.9 quarts) and premium oil filter
  • Nissan Blue Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (50/50 pre-diluted)
  • OEM NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs (DILKAR7B11)
  • New intake manifold gaskets
  • New exhaust manifold gasket
  • New thermostat gasket and water outlet gaskets
  • New serpentine accessory drive belt
  • Genuine Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid (to top off any lost fluid)
  • PCV valve (highly recommended)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration✅ Nodealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Idle Air Volume Learning, Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning, Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning, and Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) Relearn

While manual pedal-timing procedures exist, they are notoriously difficult to execute. A professional bi-directional scan tool is highly recommended to successfully trigger these relearns.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • The torque converter must be fully seated into the CVT pump gear before mating the engine to the transmission. Failing to do so will crush the CVT pump gear and destroy the transmission.
  • The QR25DE is highly sensitive to ground connections. Clean the main engine ground strap mounting point to bare metal to prevent a 'crank, no start' condition or communication codes.
  • On AWD models, carefully unbolt and support the Power Take-Off Unit (PTU) / transfer case. Do not let it hang by the driveshaft or axles.
  • Inspect your original exhaust manifold's pre-cat. If the honeycomb is crumbling, it will suck ceramic dust into this replacement engine and destroy it.
  • The crankshaft position sensor is located on the back of the engine block near the transmission bellhousing and is extremely difficult to reach once installed. Replace it while the engine is on the stand.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for a Japan-built (J-VIN) or Korea-built (K-VIN) Rogue. You must verify your VIN's 1st digit is 5 (USA built).
  • Reusing a corroded, damaged, or cheap aftermarket Crankshaft Position Sensor. Always transfer your original OEM Nissan sensors or buy brand-new genuine Nissan replacements.
  • Failing to perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure, leading to a surging or high idle.
  • Using generic 'multi-vehicle' CVT fluid instead of genuine Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid.
  • Reusing a degrading catalytic converter that will suck ceramic dust directly into the replacement engine.
  • Using cheap aftermarket valve covers with poor PCV baffling, leading to sudden, severe oil consumption.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10037-5409712). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
