6-Speed Automatic Transmission Assembly with 4-Bolt Output Flange for 2016-2019 Ford
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a 6-speed automatic transmission for rear-wheel drive (RWD) models equipped with the 3.7L V6 gasoline engine. It is critical to verify that your vehicle has a 4-bolt output flange, as this is a specific requirement for this part. For Transit-250 and Transit-350 models, this part is specified for wheelbases of 130", 138", and 148".
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Confirm the driveshaft connection has a 4-bolt output flange.
- Confirm the engine is the 3.7L V6.
- Confirm the transmission code on the driver's side door jamb sticker is '6'.
- Confirm the vehicle wheelbase is 130", 138", or 148".
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- High-lift transmission jack
- Scan tool capable of reading real-time Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT)
- Fluid transfer pump
- Torque converter alignment/holding tool
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Motorcraft Mercon LV automatic transmission fluid (approx. 13.1 quarts / 12.4 liters for dry fill)
- New transmission filter (Motorcraft BL3Z-7A098-A or equivalent) and pan gasket
- Front pump/torque converter input shaft seal (Ford part 6L2Z-7A248-AA)
- Transmission cooler-line flush solvent
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Solenoid Strategy Programming & Adaptive Relearn
If installing with the included valve body, you must program the replacement transmission's 13-digit strategy into your PCM using a dealer-level scan tool or FORScan. Alternatively, you can swap your original valve body and solenoids into this replacement unit to bypass strategy programming. Regardless of the route, an Adaptive Shift Relearn must be performed.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Seating the Torque Converter: Must be pushed and spun until it engages all three internal splines (three distinct clicks). If not fully seated, bolting the transmission to the engine will instantly destroy the front pump gear.
- No Dipstick Under Hood: Fluid level must be checked from underneath using the short stubby dipstick located inside a metal cap on the passenger side of the transmission case near the hot exhaust.
- Fluid Level Check Procedure: Must be checked with engine idling in Park, transmission fluid temperature (TFT) at 175°F to 195°F, and vehicle level.
- Bellhousing Dowels: Ensure alignment dowel pins on the back of the engine block are clean and in place. Do not use bolts to draw the transmission to the engine.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Ordering the Wrong Output Flange: Ordering without verifying if the vehicle has a 3-bolt or 4-bolt output flange.
- Skipping Solenoid Strategy Programming: Driving immediately without programming the new 13-digit strategy or swapping the original valve body, causing harsh shifts and rapid clutch failure.
- Checking Fluid Level Cold or Engine Off: Checking fluid level cold or with the engine off leads to incorrect readings and severe overfilling or underfilling.
- Reusing a Contaminated Torque Converter or Skipping Cooler Flush: Reintroducing metal shavings or debris from the failed transmission into the replacement unit, voiding the warranty.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Loss of signal from the Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor due to thermal and mechanical degradation of the electrical connections on the internal molded lead frame causes sudden downshifts to 1st or 2nd gear.
🔎 Recommended at install: Internal molded lead frame connector fails, causing transmission to drop into 5th gear failsafe mode, wrench light illumination, speedometer dropping to zero, and codes P0720/P0722.
🔎 Recommended at install: The flexible coupling connecting the transmission to the driveshaft can crack and fail. Remedy involves replacing the coupling.
🔎 Recommended at install: Rumble strip vibration at speeds between 25-60 MPH under light acceleration. Fluid flush can temporarily resolve it, but a replacement torque converter is often required.
🔎 Recommended at install: Squawk or harsh noise during 5-3 downshift or 3-4 shift flare. Add friction modifier (Motorcraft XL-16) to fluid or perform PCM software update.
🔎 Recommended at install: Intermittent loss of reverse. The fix is a PCM software reprogram.
🔎 Recommended at install: Electrical connector on the transmission case develops a fluid leak. Drop the pan to replace the connector sleeve.

Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
