The internal TEHCM (TCM) must be programmed to match your vehicle's exact VIN. If you do not program the module, the vehicle will remain in limp mode or may refuse to move at all. A Fast Learn adaptive relearn procedure must also be performed so the module can learn clutch volumes and return spring rates.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully and properly seated onto the input shaft and front pump gears (must click/drop three distinct times) before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the front pump.
- Subframe Alignment: Dropping the front subframe cradle is required. Mark alignment before removal and use alignment pins during reinstallation to prevent steering geometry issues.
- AWD Transfer Case (PTU) Alignment: Ensure splines are perfectly aligned and the seal is not pinched when reinstalling the PTU to prevent gear lube leaks.
- Fluid Level Check Procedure: No dipstick is present. Check fluid via the level control plug on the side of the case with the vehicle level, engine idling, and fluid temperature between 180°F and 203°F.

- Ordering for a Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) Vehicle: This unit is specifically for AWD vehicles (option code M7X) and will not fit FWD models.

- Reusing a Contaminated Transmission Cooler: Debris from the old failed transmission will wash into the replacement unit and destroy the solenoids if not hot-flushed or replaced.
- Swapping a Contaminated TEHCM: Swapping your original TEHCM to avoid programming fees risks transferring destructive metal debris from your old failed transmission into the replacement unit.
- Damaging the Manual Shift Linkage: Misaligning the manual shift valve pin with the internal shift linkage slider during installation will cause the transmission to get stuck in Park or fail to register gears.
