This is a used part in good condition. Fits vehicles with the 3.5L V6 engine (VQ35DE) and automatic transmission. This engine features a 24-valve dual overhead cam (DOHC) design, electronic drive-by-wire throttle, and a variable induction system. For Altima models, verify your vehicle's 4th VIN digit is B. For Pathfinder models, verify your vehicle's 4th VIN digit is A.

This engine fits multiple vehicles but has specific VIN requirements. For Nissan Pathfinder, INFINITI JX35, and INFINITI QX60, the 4th digit of the VIN must be 'A'. For the Nissan Altima Sedan, the 4th digit of the VIN must be 'B'. Please verify the VIN of your vehicle to ensure proper fitment.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Confirm that the 4th digit of your vehicle's VIN is 'A' (for Pathfinder/JX35) or 'B' (for Altima).
  • Locate the engine ID stamp on the rear right side of the cylinder block (above the transmission mating surface) and confirm it reads 'VQ35'.
  • Confirm whether your vehicle is Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) or All-Wheel Drive (AWD/4WD) to prepare for oil pan and bracket swaps if mismatched.
🔎 Where to look: Check the 4th digit of your VIN and the VQ35 stamp on the rear right side of the cylinder block.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

12 to 18 hoursshop labor$1,500 to $2,700typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine hoist/crane and heavy-duty load leveler
  • Subframe adapter / engine support bar
  • Crankshaft pulley holder tool (Nissan tool KV10117700 or equivalent)
  • Flywheel/Flexplate holding tool (Z1 Flexplate Holder or equivalent)
  • High-quality torque wrench
  • Fuel line disconnect tools
🔌 Wiring harness: Always swap your original vehicle's wiring harness and sensors onto the replacement engine. Used engines often have cut harnesses or slightly different sensor plug configurations depending on the exact production month.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Engine Oil (5W-30 synthetic or conventional, approx. 5.1 quarts) & Filter
  • Engine Coolant (Nissan Blue Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant 50/50 pre-diluted)
  • Spark Plugs (6 OEM Iridium-tipped, e.g., NGK DILKAR7B11)
  • Intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower plenum)
  • Exhaust manifold gaskets
  • Thermostat and water pump O-rings/gaskets
  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Front and rear crankshaft seals
  • Serpentine/drive belt
  • Power steering fluid (Dexron VI or Nissan PSF)
  • A/C refrigerant (R134a)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Crankshaft Position Variation Relearn (CKP Relearn) and Idle Air Volume Relearn

A professional bi-directional scan tool (like Nissan CONSULT-III Plus or high-end aftermarket equivalent) is required to perform the Crankshaft Position Variation Relearn and Idle Air Volume Relearn. No security/immobilizer re-marriage is required if you reuse your original vehicle's ECU, BCM, and keys.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • If your vehicle is AWD and the donor engine came from a FWD vehicle (or vice versa), you must swap the upper and lower oil pans, the passenger-side intermediate shaft bracket, and any transfer case mounting brackets.
  • Ensure the crankshaft position sensor (located near the oil pan/transmission mating surface) is not pinched or damaged during mating.
  • Ensure the torque converter is fully seated in the transmission pump before mating the engine to the transmission to avoid destroying the pump.
  • The VQ35DE is notorious for trapping air in the cooling system. You must use a spill-free funnel or vacuum coolant refiller, and utilize the air bleeder valve on the heater hose near the firewall.
  • Be prepared for some non-standard fastener sizes, such as 16mm or 5/8" exhaust manifold bolts on certain model years.
  • Ensure all engine and chassis ground connections are clean, tight, and correctly reinstalled to prevent electrical issues.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Reusing the donor engine's wiring harness and sensors instead of stripping the donor engine down to the bare long block and transferring your original harness and sensors.
  • Neglecting to thoroughly clean the original intake manifold of oil and debris before transferring it to the new engine.
  • Failing to verify AWD vs. FWD oil pan fitment and neglecting to swap the original oil pan onto the donor engine.
  • Skipping the Crankshaft Position Variation Relearn procedure, leading to rough idle or persistent random misfire codes (P0300).
  • Attempting to use the donor engine's ECU, which triggers the NATS immobilizer and causes a crank/no-start condition.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-77072-2590366). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
