Odometer 65,800 miles 🛡 120-day warranty included
This is a used part. For vehicles with a 3.0L engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission (8HP70).

This is an 8-speed automatic transmission for 3.0L V6 Supercharged gasoline models equipped with the automatic start/stop feature. To ensure compatibility, the Mechatronics unit (valve body/TCM) from your original transmission may need to be swapped into this replacement unit, as they can be VIN-specific.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm vehicle is a 2014-2016 Land Rover LR4, 2014 Range Rover, or 2014-2015 Range Rover Sport with the 3.0L Supercharged V6 petrol engine.
  • Verify the vehicle is equipped with the automatic engine start-stop system (eco mode).
  • Locate the green or blue metal tag on the left-hand side of the transmission case and match the OEM part number.
🔎 Where to look: Look for the green or blue metal tag on the driver's side of the transmission case near the rear bottom for Land Rover part numbers LR044777 or LR044785, or a 10-digit ZF parts list number starting with 1087 020.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6-10 hoursshop labor$1,200 - $2,000typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Heavy-duty transmission jack
  • Torque converter holding bracket
  • JLR-compatible diagnostic scan tool (JLR SDD, Pathfinder, or GAP Diagnostic IIDTool)
  • Fluid fill pump and fill adapter
  • Engine support bar or fixture
  • Torque wrench
🔌 Wiring harness: Ensure the Hydraulic Impulse Storage (HIS) accumulator electrical connector is securely plugged in and undamaged.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid (or equivalent meeting Land Rover specification LR023288)
  • New plastic transmission oil pan with integrated filter (Land Rover P/N: LR065238), new pan bolts, and drain plug
  • Torque converter input seal
  • High-pressure transmission cooler-line flush
  • Mechatronics connector sleeve seal

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: VIN-specific programming, security/immobilizer re-marriage (EGS/TCM virginization or cloning), and TCM adaptive relearn.

The Mechatronic unit (TCM) is integrated inside the transmission and is electronically locked to the donor vehicle's VIN. A used transmission will not shift out of Park or will enter limp mode without programming. Alternatively, the original undamaged Mechatronic unit can be swapped into the replacement transmission to avoid complex programming, though adaptations must still be cleared.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: The torque converter must slide back and click into place three distinct times. If not fully seated, bolting the transmission to the engine will crush the internal oil pump, destroying the unit.
  • Fluid Fill Procedure: The fluid level check must be performed with the engine running, vehicle level, and fluid temperature strictly between 86°F and 122°F (30°C and 50°C) using a diagnostic tool to monitor temperature.
  • Start-Stop Accumulator (HIS): Ensure the accumulator on the side of the case is not damaged during transport or installation.
  • Emergency Park Release (EPR): Ensure the manual emergency park release cable is properly adjusted and not binding.
  • Adaptive Relearn Drive Cycle: A specific drive cycle of light-throttle upshifts and coast-downs is required after resetting adaptations.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Buying the wrong variant (e.g., from a Dodge, Jeep, BMW, or a Land Rover with a 5.0L V8 or 3.0L Diesel) assuming all ZF 8HP70 units are identical.
  • Expecting plug-and-play operation without programming the TCM, leading to immediate limp mode.
  • Reusing the old plastic oil pan with a clogged integrated filter.
  • Using cheap, non-specification generic multi-vehicle ATF instead of ZF Lifeguard 8.
  • Failing to flush the transmission cooler lines, which recirculates debris from the failed unit into the replacement.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severePorous Transmission Casing Leak (TSB SSM72901 / LTB01296)2015-2016

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the entire transmission housing/assembly if fluid is weeping through the aluminum extension casing.

moderateLoss of Drive / Flashing Gear Selector (Technical Bulletin LTB00824)2014-2016

🔎 Recommended at install: Update the Transmission Control Module (TCM) to the latest software calibration.

moderateTorque Converter Shudder ('Rumble Strip' Vibration)All

🔎 Recommended at install: Regular fluid and filter changes every 50,000 to 75,000 miles. If shudder is present, perform a complete fluid flush using ZF Lifeguard 8.

moderateSolenoid FailureAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace clogged solenoids; maintain clean fluid to prevent debris buildup.

severeOil Pump Bearing FailureAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Address torque converter vibrations early to prevent damage to the oil pump bearing and housing.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-62692-4841867). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
