Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Confirm the 8th digit of the VIN is 'A' (designating the 2.0L Turbo engine).
- Physically check under the vehicle to confirm it is FWD (no rear driveshaft or rear differential).
- Verify the engine cover says 'Turbo' or 'GDI-T'.
- Locate the barcode sticker on top of the transmission case and check for OEM part numbers 45000-3BBW0 or 00268-3BBW0.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Engine support bar / hoist
- Transmission jack
- Subframe/cradle jack or heavy-duty jack stands
- Axle seal installation tool (e.g., 09453-3L240)
- OBD-II scan tool with Hyundai/Kia OEM-level diagnostic capabilities (GDS)
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Hyundai Genuine ATF SP-IV (7.8 Liters / 8.2 Quarts total capacity; 4.5 Liters for service fill)
- Front pump / torque converter input shaft seal (OEM Part # 46131-3B600)
- Left and right axle seals
- Transmission cooler flush solvent
- Plastic valve body cover gasket (if cover is removed)
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: TCM Adaptive Relearn (Reset Adaptive Values)
TCM adaptive values must be reset using a Hyundai-specific GDS or equivalent professional-grade scan tool, followed by a specific relearn drive cycle. Disconnecting the battery will not clear the adaptive memory.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated into the oil pump gears before bolting to the engine. Failure to do so will crack the internal oil pump, destroying the transmission instantly.
- Subframe Removal: Requires dropping the front subframe while supporting the engine from above.
- Fluid Level Check Procedure: No dipstick. Fluid level must be checked via the overflow plug on the front plastic cover at a specific fluid temperature of 50°C to 60°C (122°F to 140°F) with the engine running and vehicle level.
- Cooler Line Flush: Mandatory to flush the cooler lines and radiator to prevent debris from the failed unit from contaminating the replacement.
- Adaptive Relearn: Skipping the TCM adaptive value reset and relearn drive cycle will cause poor shift quality and potential clutch damage.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Ordering for AWD: Buying this FWD unit for an AWD vehicle. The AWD version has a different case casting to accommodate the transfer case.
- Using the Wrong Fluid: Using generic multi-vehicle ATF instead of genuine ATF SP-IV, leading to immediate shift shudder and clutch failure.
- Skipping the Cooler Flush: Reusing the old cooler and lines without flushing, which recirculates debris into the replacement unit.
- Not Resetting Adaptives: Driving the vehicle on old adaptive values, causing harsh shift shock.
- Breaking the Pump: Forcing the transmission to mate with the engine when the torque converter is not fully seated.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the internal harness/sensor assembly
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the specific faulty solenoid or the internal wiring harness
🔎 Recommended at install: Install a supplemental E-clip on the shift lever pin
🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect and secure center pinion bolts / underdrive brake hub bolts to prevent catastrophic case damage
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace torque converter and flush system to remove metallic debris
🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect right front axle shaft
🔎 Recommended at install: Check fluid level/condition or perform software update/relearn
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace transmission oil pump seal
🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect differential housing splines for stripping

Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
