Product Notes Read before buying
This is an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission for models with a 2.0L turbocharged engine and AWD (Quattro) only. Please verify your vehicle's transmission has the ID code 'NGR' to ensure compatibility. This will NOT fit FWD models or vehicles with a CVT or S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission.

Know This Transmission Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:
- Verify vehicle is a 2013-2015 Audi A6 2.0T with quattro AWD.
- Locate the 3-letter transmission code on the vehicle build sticker (spare tire well or service booklet) and confirm it is NGR.
- Physically inspect the metal identification plate on the underside of the transmission case to confirm the NGR code.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- Engine/transmission jack or support brace
- Triple-square (XZN) and Torx socket sets
- Audi-specific ATF filling adapter and fluid pump
- Bidirectional diagnostic scan tool (ODIS or VCDS)
Budget for these consumables at install:
- ZF Lifeguard 8 ATF (Audi spec G 060 162 A2)
- Front Differential Fluid (Audi spec G 052 145 S2)
- Transfer Case Fluid (Audi spec G 055 145 A2)
- Transmission filter and plastic pan gasket kit (ZF 1087.298.368 or Audi 0BK 398 009 A)
- New aluminum transmission pan bolts (single-use stretch bolts)
- New subframe, mount, and driveshaft stretch bolts
- Torque converter seal and axle seals
- Professional transmission cooler line flush
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Component Protection removal (immobilizer re-marriage) and TCM adaptive relearn
The transmission contains an internal TCM subject to Audi's Component Protection anti-theft system. Upon installation, it will lock into safe/limp mode. Removal of Component Protection requires an online connection to Audi's factory servers via ODIS, which must be performed by an authorized dealer or an independent specialist with a GEKO account. Alternatively, EEPROM cloning from the original TCM can bypass this.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated into the front pump before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the internal oil pump.
- Crossmember/Subframe Removal: Requires removing the aluminum subframe crossmember and replacing its single-use stretch bolts.
- Fluid Fill Temperature & Procedure: Level check is highly temperature-sensitive. Must be checked with engine running and fluid temperature strictly between 30°C and 50°C using a scan tool.
- Component Protection Lockout: Vehicle will not drive normally until Component Protection is cleared online via ODIS.
- Plastic Pan Torque: The integrated plastic pan and aluminum bolts must be torqued to a very low spec in a specific sequence to prevent cracking.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Assuming the unit is plug-and-play and failing to arrange for Component Protection programming, leading to limp mode.
- Reusing single-use aluminum pan, subframe, or driveline stretch bolts.
- Using generic red multi-vehicle ATF instead of the correct green ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid.
- Under-filling or over-filling the transmission by checking fluid level with the engine off or at the wrong temperature.
- Failing to flush the transmission cooler lines, which introduces old debris into the replacement unit and voids the warranty.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Diagnose and reseal transmission oil pan gasket or transfer case seam.
🔎 Recommended at install: Perform TCM software update to address harsh shifting, delayed engagement, or shuddering.
🔎 Recommended at install: Perform fresh fluid service and TCM adaptation reset.

Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
