Alternatively, the original TEHCM can be swapped into the replacement unit, which bypasses VIN programming but still requires a TCM adaptive relearn (Fast Learn).

- Torque converter must be fully seated past three distinct steps. Distance from bellhousing face to converter mounting pads must be at least 1.0 inch (25.4 mm) to avoid destroying the oil pump.
- No dipstick is present. Fluid level must be checked via a standpipe in the bottom pan with the vehicle level, engine running, and fluid temperature strictly between 86°F and 122°F (30°C and 50°C).
- The vehicle has a thermal bypass valve in the cooling lines. The valve must be bypassed or the flushing fluid heated to open it, otherwise debris from the old unit will contaminate the new transmission.
