Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm the 4th through 6th digits of the VIN are RT6.
  • Verify the engine bay contains orange high-voltage cables and the 2.0L Hybrid engine (LFB2).
  • Locate the barcode label on the original transmission case and confirm the code BTCE.
🔎 Where to look: Stamped on a barcode label located on the side or top of the transmission casing.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

7-10shop labor1200-2000typical shop bill, on top of the partExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Class 0 high-voltage insulated safety gloves (1,000V AC)
  • Insulated hand tools
  • Engine support bar/hoist
  • Professional-grade diagnostic scan tool (HDS or equivalent)
  • Transmission jack
  • Torque wrench
🔌 Wiring harness: High-voltage orange cables must be disconnected and reconnected following strict safety protocols. External wiring harnesses are not included and must be transferred.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Honda Genuine ATF DW-1 fluid (Part # 08200-9008)
  • 20mm drain plug crush washer (Part # 90471-PX4-000)
  • Left and right driveshaft axle seals
  • Honda Type 2 Blue Coolant (for hybrid inverter cooling loop)
  • Transmission cooler-line flush solvent

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

What’s involved: PCM/TCM initialization, Resolver Calibration, and TCM adaptive relearn

Requires a professional-grade scan tool running Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) software to perform motor resolver calibration and TCM adaptive relearn. If a used TCM is installed, VIN programming may also be required.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • High-Voltage Safety: Must pull the high-voltage service plug in the rear cargo area and wait 10 minutes for capacitors to discharge before touching orange cables.
  • Inverter Coolant Bleeding: The hybrid inverter cooling loop must be refilled and bled using a scan tool to command the electric water pump to prevent immediate overheating.
  • Torque Converter / Input Shaft Alignment: Ensure the input shaft splines align perfectly with the engine's damper plate. Never force the transmission against the engine block using bellhousing bolts.
  • TCM Transfer: In most cases, the original TCM should be swapped onto the replacement transmission to avoid VIN-mismatch issues.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Buying for a non-hybrid gas-only CR-V (1.5L Turbo or 2.4L).
  • Using incorrect fluid like Honda HCF-2 CVT fluid instead of the specified ATF DW-1.
  • Skipping the motor resolver calibration and TCM adaptive relearn after installation.
  • Skipping the transmission cooler-line flush, which recirculates debris from the failed unit.
  • Improperly seating the high-voltage service plug clip in the trunk, causing a no-start condition.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeLeft Front Driveshaft CV Joint Failure (NHTSA Recall)2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect left driveshaft and check VIN for open recall; replace left front driveshaft assembly if affected.

moderateLoss of Drive Power (DC-DC Converter Recall)2020

🔎 Recommended at install: Dealer inspection and potential replacement of the DC-DC converter.

moderateBattery Cable Short Circuit (Fire Risk)2020-2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the 12-volt battery cable with a new fused cable.

moderateTransmission System Problem Warning2020-2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Internal mechanical failure may require full transmission replacement under warranty.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-11125-5018054). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
