The 948TE is highly software-dependent. You must perform a Quick Learn using a dealer-level scan tool (wiTECH or equivalent) to clear old adaptive values and calibrate clutch fill times and pressures. PCM and TCM should be updated to the latest software levels before performing the learn.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

• Torque Converter Seating: Must click or drop into place three distinct times. If not fully seated, tightening the bellhousing bolts will instantly crack the internal oil pump gear.
• One-Time-Use Fasteners: Transmission bracket-to-case bolts (P/N 06511385AA) are torque-to-yield and must be replaced if removed.
• Fluid Level Check Procedure: No dipstick tube. Must check with vehicle level, engine idling in Park, fluid temperature between 122°F and 140°F (50°C to 60°C) monitored via scan tool, using the side check plug or special dipstick tool 10323A.
• Start/Stop Feature: Disable the engine Start/Stop feature before performing the Quick Learn procedure to prevent interruption.
• Mandatory Cooler Flush: Debris from the old transmission must be flushed from the cooler and lines to prevent immediate contamination and failure of the replacement unit.
