Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Verify the vehicle is a 2014 Ford Mustang with a 3.7L V6 engine.
  • Confirm the drivetrain is Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD).
  • Locate the white barcode sticker on the driver's side of the current transmission case and match the ID to BR3P-7000-CA, BR3P-7000-CB, or BR3P-7000-CC.
  • Take a clear picture of the ID tag showing the 12-digit Solenoid Body ID and 13-digit Solenoid Strategy before removal.
🔎 Where to look: The white barcode identification tag is located on the driver's side (left side) of the transmission case near the bellhousing.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

5 to 10 hoursshop labor750 to 2000typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvancedDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Transmission jack
  • Fluid transfer pump
  • Heavy-duty heat-resistant mechanics glove
  • Scan tool with J2534 programming capabilities or laptop with FORScan/Ford IDS
  • Engine support bar
🔌 Wiring harness: External wiring harnesses are not included. The internal molded lead frame connects directly to the vehicle's PCM.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Motorcraft MERCON LV automatic transmission fluid (Spec: WSS-M2C938-A)
  • Motorcraft FT-188 transmission filter
  • Transmission pan gasket
  • Torque converter seal (front pump seal)
  • Driveshaft seals
  • Professional transmission line flush solvent / cooler line flush

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Solenoid Strategy Programming & Adaptive Learning Relearn

The PCM must be programmed with the replacement unit's unique 13-digit Solenoid Strategy and 12-digit Solenoid Body ID. Alternatively, the original valve body can be swapped into the replacement unit to bypass reprogramming. A Transmission Adaptive Learning Drive Cycle must be performed after installation.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Must click/drop down three distinct times to fully seat. Failure to seat fully will crack the front pump gear upon bolting the transmission to the engine.
  • No Under-Hood Dipstick: Fluid must be filled and checked from underneath the vehicle via a small dipstick cap next to the hot exhaust.
  • Fluid Level Check Temperature: Must be checked while idling, level, and with fluid temperature between 180°F and 200°F (or 90°F - 110°F for cold check).
  • Bellhousing Dowel Pins: Ensure alignment dowel pins are in place and not corroded to prevent input shaft misalignment.
  • Mandatory Cooler Flush: Debris from the old failed unit must be thoroughly flushed from the cooler lines to prevent immediate solenoid contamination.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Failing to program the 13-digit Solenoid Strategy into the PCM, leading to immediate harsh shifting and clutch damage.
  • Using the wrong fluid type (such as Mercon V, Dexron VI, or generic multi-vehicle ATF) instead of genuine Mercon LV.
  • Improper torque converter seating, resulting in a cracked front pump rotor when tightening bellhousing bolts.
  • Not flushing the transmission cooler lines, which pumps old debris directly into the replacement unit's sensitive solenoids.
  • Attempting to swap old valve bodies or lead frames to avoid programming, which risks introducing a faulty component.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the molded lead frame inside the transmission and/or perform PCM software reprogram (Recall 19S07 / NHTSA 19V-075 / TSB 13-6-8 / TSB 13-2-3 / TSB 16-0008).

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the front pump seal and torque converter (TSB 13-6-4).

moderateGrowl or Buzz Noise Shifting from Park to Drive/Reverse2013-2014

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the main control valve body separator plate with an updated design (TSB 14-0134).

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-05123-3204960). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
