Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Verify the 8th digit of your VIN is V or D (designating the 3.6L LLT V6 engine for 2010-2011 models).
  • Check the Service Parts Identification sticker (trunk floor/lid or glove box) for RPO codes MYB and MX0.
  • Locate the metal tag on the side pan rail of your transmission case and verify the 4-character broadcast code matches 0BJA or 9BJA.
🔎 Where to look: Look for the metal identification tag on the flat surface of the side pan rail of the transmission case (typically on the right/passenger side).

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

5-8shop labor700-1500typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced/ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Transmission jack
  • GM-compatible scan tool (Tech2, MDI, or J2534 pass-thru device)
  • Transmission cooler line flush machine or aerosol flush kit
  • Torque wrench
🔌 Wiring harness: The TEHCM is integrated with the solenoids and valve body inside the oil pan. If you use the TEHCM included with this unit, it must be programmed with your vehicle's VIN using GM Service Programming System (SPS) software.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • DEXRON VI specification synthetic ATF (or upgraded Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP)
  • Transmission Filter & Pan Gasket Kit (GM Part Number: 24236933 or equivalent)
  • Torque Converter Seal (front pump seal)
  • Transmission Cooler Flush agent

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: VIN-specific dealer programming (GM SPS) and TCM adaptive relearn ('Service Fast Learn')

The integrated Transmission Control Module (TCM/TEHCM) must be programmed with the correct calibration for your vehicle's VIN using a GM-specific scan tool (like a GM MDI2) or J2534 pass-thru device. Following programming, a 'Service Fast Learn Adapts' procedure must be performed.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated onto the transmission input shaft and pump gears (clicking/engaging three times) before bolting to the engine. If not fully seated, bolting the bellhousing will instantly crack the front pump rotor.
  • Cooler Line Flushing: Thoroughly flush the transmission cooler lines and radiator cooler to clear debris from the failed unit. Debris will contaminate the replacement unit's solenoids and TEHCM.
  • Fluid Level Check Procedure: No traditional dipstick. Check fluid level from underneath using the fill plug on the side and level-check plug on the bottom of the pan. Fluid temperature must be between 86°F and 122°F (or up to 212°F depending on procedure) while the engine is running in Park.
  • TCM Programming and Relearn: Do NOT drive the vehicle before programming the TCM and performing the fast learn procedure to avoid harsh shifting, limp mode, and premature clutch failure.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Trying to Swap with a V8 Transmission: V8 Camaros use the heavier-duty 6L80 (MYC) transmission, which has a completely different bellhousing bolt pattern, case length, and electrical pinouts.
  • Skipping the Programming Step: Expecting the transmission to work immediately without programming the VIN-locked TEHCM, leading to no-crank, limp mode, or harsh shifting.
  • Reusing the Old, Contaminated Torque Converter: Reusing the old converter introduces dirty fluid and metallic debris into the replacement transmission.
  • Incorrect Fluid Leveling: Dumping in a random amount of fluid without following the exact temperature-based leveling procedure.
  • Incorrect Fluid: Using anything other than DEXRON VI or approved equivalent.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeTorque Converter Shudder (TSB #16-NA-175 / TSB #18-NA-355)2010-2011

🔎 Recommended at install: Complete transmission fluid flush using Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP ('blue label' fluid) or replacing the torque converter if the clutch is already glazed/damaged.

severeTEHCM / Solenoid Failures (Pressure Switch Film Rupture)2010-2011

🔎 Recommended at install: Replacing the pressure switch seals/diaphragms (using aftermarket kits like Sonnax) or replacing the entire TEHCM.

moderateHard Shifting / Jerking2010-2011

🔎 Recommended at install: Address valve body or solenoid issues.

severeSudden Loss of Engagement / No MovementEarly 2010 models

🔎 Recommended at install: Address potential solenoid or internal hydraulic pressure loss; check for metal debris in the torque converter.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-01127-1606731). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
