Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated onto the transmission input shaft and pump gears (clicking/engaging three times) before bolting to the engine. If not fully seated, bolting the bellhousing will instantly crack the front pump rotor.
- Cooler Line Flushing: Thoroughly flush the transmission cooler lines and radiator cooler to clear debris from the failed unit. Debris will contaminate the replacement unit's solenoids and TEHCM.
- Fluid Level Check Procedure: No traditional dipstick. Check fluid level from underneath using the fill plug on the side and level-check plug on the bottom of the pan. Fluid temperature must be between 86°F and 122°F (or up to 212°F depending on procedure) while the engine is running in Park.
- TCM Programming and Relearn: Do NOT drive the vehicle before programming the TCM and performing the fast learn procedure to avoid harsh shifting, limp mode, and premature clutch failure.
