Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Check your VIN's 6th Digit: Confirm that the 6th digit is '1' (which indicates the 1.5L Turbocharged engine). If the 6th digit is '2', your vehicle is a Hybrid, and this engine will not fit.
  • Confirm your Trim Level: This engine is compatible with the LX and EX trim levels of the 2023-2025 Honda Accord. It is NOT compatible with the Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, or Touring trims (which are Hybrids).
  • Locate the Engine Code Stamp: Look at the front of your engine block near the transmission bell housing. You should see the engine code L15BE stamped into a flat metal pad.
🔎 Where to look: The 6th digit of your VIN must be '1' and the engine block must be stamped 'L15BE'.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

12 to 20 hoursshop labor$1,500 to $3,500typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine hoist and load leveler
  • Professional OBD2 scan tool with Honda-specific diagnostic capabilities
  • Fuel line disconnect tools
  • Precision torque wrench
  • Crankshaft seal driver
🔌 Wiring harness: You must transfer your original vehicle's engine wiring harness to the replacement engine to ensure 100% electrical compatibility.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Engine Oil (0W-20 Full Synthetic, exactly 3.7 quarts)
  • Genuine Honda Oil Filter (Part #15400-PLM-A02)
  • Genuine Honda Type 2 Blue Coolant
  • NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plugs (Part #DILKAR8P8SY)
  • Intake manifold gasket
  • Exhaust manifold / turbocharger inlet gasket
  • Throttle body gasket
  • High-pressure fuel pump O-ring
  • Thermostat

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration⚠️ Yesdealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Pattern Relearn / Immobilizer Re-marriage

After installing the engine, you must perform a Crank Pattern Learn and Immobilizer Re-marriage. If this is not done, the ECU will not allow the car to start or will trigger a flashing check engine light, misfire codes, or put the vehicle into limp mode.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Turbocharger Transfer: Since this engine is sold without the turbocharger, you must transfer your original turbocharger assembly. Flush all coolant and oil feed lines leading to the turbocharger.
  • High-Pressure Fuel System: Relieve the fuel system pressure before disconnecting any lines. Always replace the high-pressure fuel pump O-ring and the fuel injector seals if they are disturbed.
  • Torque-to-Yield (TTY) Bolts: Many fasteners on this engine, including the cylinder head bolts, are torque-to-yield and must be replaced rather than reused.
  • Soy-Based Wiring Harness: Honda uses soy-based insulation on its wiring harnesses, which is highly attractive to rodents. Inspect your original harness thoroughly for any signs of rodent damage.
  • Harness Disconnection: On similar Honda models, it is easier to disconnect the main engine harness at the ECU and fuse box and lift the entire harness out with the engine, rather than unplugging every individual sensor in the bay.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Ordering for a Hybrid: The Accord Hybrid uses a completely different 2.0L naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle engine. Always verify your VIN's 6th digit is '1' (1.5L Turbo) and NOT '2' (2.0L Hybrid).
  • Reusing Old Spark Plugs or Injectors: Reusing worn spark plugs or failing fuel injectors from your old engine can cause immediate misfires, rough idling, or even engine damage.
  • Skipping the Crank Relearn: Many DIYers and general repair shops complete the physical install but skip the Crank Pattern Learn step, leading to immediate check engine lights and misfire codes.
  • Not Flushing the Turbo Lines: Failing to flush the turbocharger oil and coolant lines when transferring your turbo can introduce old metal debris or sludge into the new engine.
  • Ignoring Software Updates: Installing the engine without ensuring the vehicle's PCM has the latest software from Honda to help mitigate oil dilution issues.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300.HO1S24-5029799). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
