For front-wheel drive (FWD) vehicles with an automatic transmission. Features an electronic drive-by-wire throttle and direct ignition system. This engine meets Tier 2, Bin 5 LEV2-SULEV emission ratings. Does not include the flywheel. You may need to change the induction and electrical systems as needed.

This engine fits Nissan Sentra models from 2013-2019 with the 1.8L engine. For 2013-2014 models, it fits vehicles with California emissions (engine code MR18DE). For 2015-2017 models, it fits vehicles with California emissions (engine code MRA8DE). For 2018-2019 models, it fits vehicles with a CVT transmission (engine code MRA8DE). Please verify your vehicle's specific engine code and emissions type to ensure proper fitment. The intake and electrical systems may need to be transferred from your original engine.

Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Verify your VIN's 4th Digit is 'A'.
  • Check your Under-Hood Emissions Label (California SULEV vs. Federal ULEV).
  • Confirm your Transmission Type (CVT vs. 6-speed manual) to prepare for flywheel/flexplate transfer.
🔎 Where to look: Look at your vehicle's VIN plate visible through the bottom of the driver's side windshield or on the driver's door jamb sticker.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

10-20shop labor1200-3600typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced / ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine hoist/crane with a load leveler
  • 14mm thin-wall 12-point spark plug socket
  • Precision torque wrench
  • OEM-compatible diagnostic scan tool
🔌 Wiring harness: You must reuse and transfer your original engine wiring harness to the replacement engine. Pinouts and connector shapes can vary slightly between model years and emissions packages.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Engine Oil (0W-20 Full Synthetic or 5W-30 depending on spec; approx 4.2 - 4.5 liters) & Filter
  • Engine Coolant (Nissan Blue Long Life 50/50 Pre-Diluted)
  • Spark Plugs (NGK DILKAR6A-11 for California emissions, or PLZKAR6A-11 for Federal)
  • Intake manifold gasket set
  • Exhaust manifold gasket
  • Thermostat and water outlet gaskets
  • Accessory Drive Belt (Serpentine belt)
  • PCV Valve (Brand-new OEM black PCV valve)

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration✅ Nodealer tool needed✅ NoECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Idle Air Volume Learning (IAVL) / Throttle Relearn & Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Relearn

sources differ: Arm 1 states a dealer scan tool (or high-end professional bi-directional scan tool) is required for Idle Air Volume Learning. Arm 2 states that while some advanced aftermarket scan tools can perform these relearns, a Nissan-specific scan tool (like the dealer's CONSULT tool) is the most reliable method. Cautious choice: 'yes' or 'model_dependent' for dealer tool, but set to false as high-end aftermarket tools can perform it, though dealer tool is highly recommended.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • The Spark Plug Torque Trap: Cylinder head is fragile around spark plug threads. Never tighten on a warm/hot engine. Torque strictly to 14 ft-lbs (19.6 Nm).
  • Flywheel / Torque Converter Bolt Access: Access torque converter nuts through the starter motor mounting pocket. Ensure crankshaft rotates smoothly by hand before starting.
  • Electronic Throttle Body Care: Do not manually push or force the brass throttle plate open with your fingers to clean it.
  • Engine Mount Design: The primary passenger-side engine mount bolts directly to the timing chain cover, making the cover a structural part of the engine.
  • Accessory Removal: Removing the front bumper cover and radiator provides much better access for removing the engine from the top.
  • Alternator Bolt: The alternator has a bolt that is difficult to remove without sliding the alternator in a specific track designed into its mounting bracket.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Cracking the Cylinder Head During Spark Plug Installation by over-torquing or tightening on a hot engine.
  • Reusing the Donor Engine's Sensors and PCV Valve, which triggers immediate check engine lights due to emissions package differences.
  • Skipping the Idle Relearn Procedure, leading to extremely high or surging idle.
  • Using Aftermarket Sensors instead of genuine OEM camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.
  • Not Swapping Key Parts like the original intake manifold, fuel injectors, and engine harness.
  • Failing to Clean Components like the throttle body and intake passages before installation.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-77070-2528158). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
