Know This Transmission Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this transmission family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right transmission shows up:

  • Confirm the 8th digit of your VIN is 'A' (2.3L EcoBoost engine).
  • Check the driver's side door jamb sticker under the 'TR' column; it must display the code 'T'.
  • Confirm your vehicle is a 4x4 configuration matching the 2.3L engine.
🔎 Where to look: Locate the identification tag on the right (passenger) side of your transmission case and confirm it displays the ID code MB3P-7000-BD.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

6 to 12 hoursshop labor900 to 2,000typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced to ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Transmission jack
  • Transfer case jack
  • Torque converter alignment/holding tool
  • Ford-compatible scan tool (Ford FDRS, IDS, or FORScan)
  • Fluid fill pump
🔌 Wiring harness: Features a highly integrated internal wiring harness that is included, but external wiring harnesses and the TCM are not included.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Motorcraft Mercon ULV (Ultra-Low Viscosity) fluid (WSS-M2C949-A)
  • New transmission filter (Motorcraft FT-231 / FT-218 / Part # LP5Z-7A098-A / HL3Z-7A098-A)
  • New pan gasket
  • Front pump/torque converter input shaft seal
  • Rear output/transfer case seal
  • Professional transmission cooler-line flush solvent

What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:

⚠️ Requiredprogramming / calibration✅ Nodealer tool needed⚠️ YesECU/PCM re-marriage

What’s involved: Solenoid Body Strategy Programming, VIN-specific programming, and TCM Adaptive Relearn

The solenoid strategy varies by build: the 13-digit solenoid body strategy and 12-digit solenoid body ID must be programmed into the vehicle's computer, and a TCM adaptive relearn must be performed. A dealer-level tool (Ford FDRS/IDS) or advanced aftermarket software like FORScan is required. Failure to program will cause immediate internal damage.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Torque Converter Seating: Ensure the torque converter is fully seated (three distinct clicks, recessed at least 1 inch) before bolting to the engine to avoid cracking the internal front pump.
  • Transmission-to-Transfer Case Alignment: Strictly follow Ford alignment procedures to prevent premature spline wear and loss of park pawl function.
  • The 'Scorching Hot' Fluid Check: Fluid level must be checked from underneath the vehicle with the engine running, vehicle level, and fluid temp between 206°F and 215°F, right next to the hot catalytic converter.
  • Solenoid Strategy Tag Photo: Take a clear photo of the strategy tag on the left side of the case before installation, as it is extremely difficult to read once installed.
  • Dowel Pin Alignment: Ensure engine block-to-bellhousing dowel pins are present and clean. Do not use bolts to draw the transmission to the engine.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Reusing the old solenoid strategy in the computer instead of programming the new unit's unique strategy.
  • Using the wrong fluid (such as Mercon LV, Mercon V, or generic multi-vehicle ATF) instead of the required Mercon ULV.
  • Checking the fluid level cold or with the engine off, leading to severe under-filling.
  • Failing to flush the transmission cooler lines, which introduces debris from the failed unit into the replacement.
  • Cracking the front pump by failing to seat the torque converter properly before tightening bellhousing bolts.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every transmission of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeHarsh or Delayed Shifting (TSB 23-2352 / TSB 22-2428 / 23-2250)2021-2023 Bronco models built on or before December 23, 2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Update PCM/TCM software, perform adaptive learning drive cycle, or repair sticking valves in the main control valve body / internal CDF clutch cylinder sleeve.

moderateHarsh 7-6 Downshift (TSB 22-2411)2022 Bronco, Explorer, and Aviator vehicles built on or before August 9, 2022

🔎 Recommended at install: Internal transmission repair to address a potentially dislodged snap ring on the 'A' clutch piston return spring.

severeStuck Valve / Loss of Lubrication (Recall 23S54 / NHTSA 23V625)Certain 2023 Ford Bronco models

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace upper valve body casting to prevent main control poppet valve from sticking open.

severeLoose Internal Bolt (Recall NHTSA 23V070000)Certain 2022-2023 Bronco vehicles

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect and secure loose internal bolt that could prevent transmission from engaging park gear.

severeTransmission-to-Transfer Case Misalignment (Recall 26S11 / 26S26 / NHTSA 26V210)2021-2025 Bronco models

🔎 Recommended at install: Strictly follow updated Ford workshop manual alignment procedures during installation to prevent premature wear of the shaft splines.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 400-11215-5213337). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
