Know This Engine Before You Buy

The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:

A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:

  • Confirm the 6th digit of the VIN is '4' for an Acura Integra, or '1' for a Honda Civic Si.
  • Verify the engine code stamped on the front-left side of the engine block reads 'L15CA'.
  • Confirm transmission type (CVT vs 6-speed manual) to prepare for necessary flywheel and harness swaps.
🔎 Where to look: The 6th digit of the VIN, and the 'L15CA' code stamped on the flat metal pad on the front-left side of the engine block near the transmission mating surface.

What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:

10 to 16 hoursshop labor$1,200 to $2,400typical shop bill, on top of the partAdvanced to ExpertDIY difficulty

Special tools this job needs:

  • Engine hoist and load leveler / support fixture
  • Honda-specific crankshaft pulley holder tool
  • High-accuracy torque wrenches
  • Fuel line disconnect tools
  • Hose clamp pliers
  • Professional diagnostic scan tool
🔌 Wiring harness: You must reuse your vehicle's original ECU/PCM to maintain the immobilizer connection. If your vehicle is a manual transmission, you must swap your original manual wiring harness onto this automatic-donor engine block.

Budget for these consumables at install:

  • Fresh SAE 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil (API SP / ILSAC GF-6A)
  • New OE-spec oil filter
  • Fresh Honda Type 2 Blue pre-diluted coolant
  • Intake manifold gasket
  • Exhaust manifold/turbocharger inlet gasket
  • Throttle body gasket
  • High-pressure fuel pump O-ring and high-pressure fuel pipe joint
  • Direct injector Teflon seals (if swapping injectors)
  • New OE-spec Laser Iridium spark plugs
  • New torque-to-yield bolts for the flywheel/flexplate and crankshaft pulley

What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Relearn & Fuel Injector Programming

Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor pattern must be relearned using a professional bidirectional scan tool to prevent false misfire codes. Fuel injector programming is required if using the injectors that come installed on this replacement engine.

Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:

  • Write down the alphanumeric calibration codes printed on the plastic head of each fuel injector before bolting on the intake manifold.
  • Because this engine was pulled from an automatic (CVT) vehicle, you must remove the flexplate and install your manual flywheel if installing into a manual vehicle.
  • The direct-injection fuel system operates at extremely high pressures; properly relieve system pressure before opening lines and never reuse the high-pressure fuel pipe joint.
  • Modern engine harnesses have numerous plastic connectors that can become brittle with heat and age; handle with care.
  • Pay close attention to the location and condition of all engine and transmission grounding straps.

Easy to get right once you know them:

  • Assuming the turbocharger is included with this engine assembly.
  • Attempting to reuse the Teflon seals on the direct fuel injectors or the high-pressure fuel pipe joint.
  • Using older API SN or generic engine oil instead of API SP / ILSAC GF-6A rated oil, which can lead to Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI).
  • Failing to perform the mandatory Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor relearn procedure.
  • Reusing torque-to-yield fasteners like the crankshaft pulley bolt or flywheel bolts.
  • Not inspecting the transferred turbocharger for shaft play or damage before installation.

Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:

severeDirect Injector FailuresAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Replace leaking or failing direct fuel injectors to prevent cylinder misfires, spark plug fouling, and fuel wash-down.

severeHead Gasket FailureAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Avoid aggressive aftermarket tuning or upgrade to high-strength head studs.

moderateOil DilutionAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Perform shorter oil change intervals (e.g., every 5,000 miles) and ensure the engine reaches full operating temperature.

moderateWastegate Actuator RattleAll

🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect transferred turbocharger's wastegate arm for play before installing.

Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10956-5204746). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.

Policies, in plain English.

Shipping & Handling

  • Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
  • Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
  • The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
  • Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance

120-Day Warranty

This part includes a 120-day warranty.

  • If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
  • Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
  • Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation

Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.

Returns (30 Days)

We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.

  • Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
  • Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
  • Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
  • Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
  • Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited

Damaged in Shipping?

Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:

  • Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
  • Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
  • Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
  • Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery

We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.

Order Cancellation

Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
