2.5L DOHC 4-Cylinder Engine Complete Assembly for 2020-2024 Hyundai & Kia
Product Notes Read before buying
This is a 2.5L naturally aspirated (non-turbo) gasoline engine. To ensure compatibility, please verify your vehicle has the correct engine by checking the 8th digit of your VIN: Santa Cruz (VIN E), Santa Fe (VIN J), Sonata (VIN A), Sorento (VIN C), or Tucson (VIN E).
Voice or type your vehicle details and Wrenchy will confirm fitment in seconds.

Know This Engine Before You Buy
The research behind our purchase interview — recalls, bulletins and real install economics for this engine family:
A quick look at your own vehicle makes sure the right engine shows up:
- Verify your VIN's 8th Digit (J for Santa Fe, A for Sonata, E for Tucson/Santa Cruz, C for Sorento).
- Confirm Drivetrain (AWD vs FWD) to prepare for oil pan and bracket swaps if necessary.
- Check for a Turbocharger under the hood to ensure your vehicle is naturally aspirated.
- Locate the Engine Code Stamping on the front-left side of the engine block near the transmission mating surface.
What the install really takes — plan and budget with confidence:
Special tools this job needs:
- High-pressure fuel line flare nut wrench
- GDI fuel injector remover/installer tool kit
- Engine hoist
- Metric sockets and wrenches
- Torque wrenches
- Hyundai/Kia GDS or equivalent advanced scan tool
Budget for these consumables at install:
- Engine Oil (0W-20 Full Synthetic, approx. 6.1 to 6.5 quarts)
- OEM Hyundai oil filter
- Pink ethylene glycol-based phosphate-free coolant (P-OAT type)
- Intake manifold gasket
- Exhaust manifold gasket
- High-pressure fuel pipe (Hyundai part 35305-2S000QQH) — CRITICAL single-use item
- GDI fuel injector combustion seal rings (Teflon seals)
- New OEM Iridium spark plugs
What your vehicle’s computers will need after the swap:
What’s involved: Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Relearn, Integrated Thermal Management (ITM) Module Calibration, Fuel Injector Write (Compensation Codes)
A Hyundai/Kia GDS tool or high-end professional bi-directional scan tool is required to perform the CKP relearn, ITM calibration, and injector coding.
Pro tips for a smooth first start-up — hand them to whoever does the install:
- Single-Use High-Pressure Fuel Pipe: Never reuse the high-pressure fuel pipe connecting the high-pressure pump to the fuel rail. Reusing it is the #1 cause of post-install fuel leaks and engine fires.
- AWD vs FWD Oil Pan and Bracket Transfer: If swapping between AWD and FWD configurations, you must swap the oil pan, oil pickup tube, and intermediate shaft brackets from your original engine.
- Fragile GDI Injector Teflon Seals: Teflon combustion seals on the tip of the injectors are extremely fragile and require a special sizing tool to compress them during installation.
- ITM Module Alignment: The Integrated Thermal Management Module (ITM) has plastic coolant passages and electronic actuators. Dropping it or overtightening the mounting bolts will crack the housing.
Easy to get right once you know them:
- Reusing the High-Pressure Fuel Pipe instead of replacing it, leading to high-pressure fuel leaks and fires.
- Ordering for a Turbocharged Vehicle: Mistaking this naturally aspirated 2.5L (G4KN) for the 2.5L Turbo (G4KP/G4KR).
- Failing to Perform the Crankshaft Relearn, resulting in rough running, stalling, or a flashing Check Engine Light with misfire codes.
- Not Checking/Topping Off Oil Regularly, leading to running the engine dry due to known oil consumption tendencies.
Not issues with the units on this page — the manufacturer documented these for every engine of this family, wherever you buy one. Handy for your installer:
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the GDI fuel injectors and the high-pressure fuel pipe (TSB 23-FL-002H-1).
🔎 Recommended at install: Perform Combustion Chamber Cleaning (piston soak) to free stuck rings; severe cases require engine replacement. Revised piston design introduced in mid-2023.
🔎 Recommended at install: Replace the ITM with a revised part (25600-2S600QQH) and update the ECU software.
🔎 Recommended at install: Inspect and tighten or replace the fuel pipe.
Researched from factory recalls, TSBs and OEM service data (reference unit 300-10526-5519800). Unit-specific details — mileage, condition, warranty, freight — are covered in the checkout interview.
Policies, in plain English.
Shipping & Handling
- Ships by LTL freight on a pallet — a real freight truck, not a parcel van
- Your checkout freight quote covers delivery to your door (liftgate service included for residential addresses)
- The carrier calls ahead to schedule a delivery window — someone must be present to receive it
- Typically palletized and picked up within 2–3 business days; transit time depends on distance
120-Day Warranty
This part includes a 120-day warranty.
- If the part fails within the warranty window, we'll replace it or refund per the coverage terms
- Coverage is parts-only — installation labor is not included
- Warranty covers defects — not installation errors, misuse, or damage after installation
Your pre-purchase interview reviews these exact terms with you before anything is charged.
Returns (30 Days)
We accept returns of uninstalled parts within 30 days of delivery for this part.
- Defective parts: We will replace the part or issue a refund at our discretion
- Programming: "Needs to be programmed to my vehicle" is not a valid return reason. Many modules require dealer programming — we're happy to help connect you with resources if your dealer says it's not programmable
- Return shipping: This part ships by freight (LTL) — the part price is refundable per the terms above, but shipping costs are non-refundable and return freight follows the seller's return terms. Your pre-purchase interview walks through the exact numbers before you buy
- Parts must be returned in original packaging and unmodified condition
- Poorly packaged returns that arrive damaged will not be credited
Damaged in Shipping?
Freight damage is rare — and you're fully protected when you do two things at delivery:
- Inspect before you sign — you're allowed time to look the pallet over while the driver waits
- Write any damage on the delivery receipt before signing — that one line is what makes a freight claim succeed
- Severe damage? Refuse the delivery — it goes back at no cost to you and we make it right
- Photograph the pallet before unwrapping; report concealed damage within 24 hours of delivery
We handle the carrier claim — you just help document it. Your pre-purchase interview walks through this checklist too.
Order Cancellation
Cancel before shipment for a full refund. Once the pallet has been built, a preparation charge may apply — and once the freight carrier picks it up, shipping costs are non-refundable and standard return terms apply. Your pre-purchase interview shows the exact numbers before you pay.
