1. Verify RPO Code J17

This is the most important compatibility check. The ELR was available with different brake packages. This module fits vehicles with the standard brake system, identified by RPO code J17. It will not fit models with the optional performance brakes. You must check the RPO code on the vehicle the part is for.

• How to Find Your RPO Code: Look for the "Service Parts Identification" sticker. This is a silver label typically found inside the glove box or in the trunk area. It will have a list of three-character codes. You must find 'J17' on this list. Do not buy a module without confirming this code.

2. Programming is NOT Optional

A replacement ABS module—whether new or used—MUST be programmed to your vehicle's VIN after it is physically installed. The module will not function, and the warning lights will stay on, until this is done. Be very skeptical of any seller claiming to sell a "pre-programmed" or "plug-and-play" module for this vehicle; programming must be done while the module is connected to the car's data network.

3. Physical Inspection

When inspecting a used module, check for the following:

• No Corrosion: Inspect the aluminum housing and electrical connectors for any white, crusty corrosion.

It requires a pressure bleeder and a scan tool to cycle the ABS pump and solenoids in a specific sequence to purge all trapped air from the new modulator.
